rt tappets

Very easy. Id do it in about half an hour for you. Engine has to be cold when you do it though.

Where abouts are you?

mine were noisey for a bit. Caused by using magnatec oil!!

Got semi-synth in there now and all is well again :)

By the way wot do the tappets do???

As the cam spins, it presses against the rockers (or tappets) which in turn push down on top of the valves, opening and closing them. Sort of like a see-saw effect, only up-side-down.!

Sorry, crap explaination but I think its the simplist way of explaining.!

the cam lobe act unpon the tappets which translate that movement to the tip of the valvestems.

pushes the valves down.

there is a simple procedure that you can follow which is a lot easier than rocking each valve and then adjusting it.if you get stuck ill post it up.where you from?

I might be going up Pod on Sunday, could take a look if you are there, or close by? Or, if you get the Clio Haynes manual, it has instructions in there on how to do it, including the adjustment sequence. Not difficult to do at all, and could be a good starting point to get to know how to work on your engine.

Jay - There is only 1 way to do it. You need to adjust them in sequence. ie: when 1 exhaust is fully open, adjust 4 & 6 (for example).

do it with the engine COLD

and dont use Castrol Magnatec as that seems to make it far worse, it did in mine and many other RTs

yes like i said a procedure you can follow.the manual states when one valve is open it gives you an exhaust and a inlet valve to adjust.i would have to look up the exact sequence.very easy and a ten minute job
