rubbing sound

hi iv have a friend thats got an 02 reg 1.2 clio which over the past month or so has developed a rubbing sound from the rear.it almost sounds as tho the tyre is rubbing its no affected by how hard you accelerate or corner its just constant an gets louder an faster the faster you go an revs dont effect it. iv checked the wheels are tight an the wheels are clear of the arches wiv no rubbing an wheel bearings seam fine.anyone got any ideas im not to clued up on clios because i drive a 2l corsa.

if you jack the car up and spin the wheel if you hear a rubbing/grinding noise then thats your problem

i had a quick look the other night an there didnt seam to be any play in the wheel but i was in abit of a rush il have another look in the light.thanks for the help
