Folk have to pay probably because they've already been changed.

Second time I've had a letter from them about the bonnet catch. I had to go to the sorting office to collect it because I was in bed when the post arrived. Hate to think how much they wasted posting them all by recorded delivery. Ridiculous. The letter is really patronising. It's hardly rocket science keeping the lock in good condition.

They sending out a second lot of letters? Just got another one through the post but already been checked before. All they done was wd40 it!

Just get it booked in regardless if you have a letter or not. I've had a 172 and a Trophy done in the last year without a letter for either. It's your one opportunity to get 'summat for nowt' at the dealers.

It's not :rasp: - it has a set of silver F1's on at the mo, running Hancooks, though on my previous track car I ran these very same red wheels with the spec 2's and I found them good - obviously they don't offer the same grip as say 888's but I'm after fun on a track day, not lap times and for that they are pretty good ;)

Wheels need to go back red asap (the project thread is in the project section for anyone who wants a read)

I think I might take it in, will at least stop the letters coming lol

I had a letter rung my local garage, the guy I spoke to had hell of an attitude then said I might have to pay for it... the phone call didn't last very long after that.

Customer of mine had the letter 2 months ago. Did nothing about it.

Then on Sunday, at 70mph, on the motorway. BANG!!

Seen/towed several now

Not the actual car but they look like this after......

Was on the receiving end of a catch that hadn't been done on my ph1 when I first got it, not fun! Happened on a rural road, at 60-ish mph, in the rain, with no phone signal and about 3 miles to the nearest busy road, lucky it happened where it did, on the only long stretch of straight along the whole road, anywhere else, me and two mates would probably not be here now!

Get em fixed, even if Renault are gonna charge you the 60 quid its worth it, you don't wanna die... or have brown pants!

If I understand right, they just lubricate the 'lock' mechanism?

I am sure I will not recieve any letter from local Renault, but I would like to help it not getting my bonnet too close to my windscreen

This.

I rang up about the catch on my derv as its rusted pretty bad. They tell me it's been done and it £59 if its the bottom part and £89 if its both. Fixed prices apparently.
I have had a letter today. It says i can get it checked for free but it will cost £95 max inc VAT.

I got my original recall letter back in 2008 and just ignored it , i've always kept it well lubricated myself . I got another letter on Thursday saying take it to a dealership immediately . So i bit the bullet this time and rang up and booked it in . The corrective action might only actually be that " they " lubricate it " , not replace the catch . I rang RUK just to see what they said and they cofirmed this . They'll check if the bonnet catch is working properly , if it is the dealership will lubricate it . They'll only replace it if the find that there is an issue with it . Whatever action they do take , either lubricate it or replace it will be free of charge . As i've never had a problem with mine ( touch wood ) i'll put money on it they just lubricate it .
Mine was done in 2008 i think. I just keep lubing mine too.

renault didnt change mine and just said they would charge me £59 + vat to get it replaced. I said no and took it home. got some degreaser and a wire brush and set to work on it. after i lubed it up and it seems to be mint now :)

just got this letter today too, im not potentially paying £95+VAT for a recall. i'll be ringing them tomorrow i think, see what they say. im sure a check will be fine as the panels line up nicely

Renaults mistake that it hasnt been maintained properly? If it has a full dealer service history then i guess your right

Your panels may line up fine but that's not to say your catch is working properly.

You can't expect Renault to pay for everything wrong with your car. Your car is probably about 9 years old now don't forget.

It's not a matter of the panels lining up nicely . I didn't think there was anything wrong with my catch , it wasn't particualy rusty , i'd always lubricated myself . But now having a new one fitted FOC a few weeks ago i realise it wasn't performing as it should . When i used to pull the cable the bonnet wouldn't always pop up , i had t put my fingers under the edge of the bonnet to lift it . Now when i pull the cable it pops up as it should , just like it did when it was new .

If you've received a letter stating any correctve action which includes replacing the catch at a cost of £95.00 plus VAT will mean a previous owner has already had the catch replaced when the original recall letters were sent out back in 2008 . So it's doubtful that they'll replace it a second time , they'll probably just lubricate it for you and advice you it needs replacing .

Well considering its a recall think I can expect them too if its needing done and if its important enough too send all these letters out recorded post and pay all that money they can afford too fix this it's not my fault they put poor plastic latches on the car instead of a decent durable ones and it does have a fsh for your info not always dealership but when it wasn't was always done at a Renault specialist also and I look after my cars very well since I've bought it there's been no expense spared on anything!! If it comes too having too pay then il buy my own and fit it but doubt it will

If your letter states there will be a charge if it needs replacing then its not a recall, they are just asking you to come in and have it checked out. If your letter states no charge for replacement parts then its a recall (yellow OTS) meaning the catch hasn't been changed at the last recall in 2007/2008.

Fsh outside the network means nothing to Renault, it may aswel have no history atall.
