Rust on light connections

I have found that my rear light connections have began too rust,
i have never previously took them out at all and ive only had the car 3 years form new.

I took them out when i spotted the rust ( idiot ) and now i have plugged them back in it seems my rear right break light is not working...

Ive tried cleaning the clips with rust remover but it doesnt seem to have done much good, anyone know if i would be able to snip the wires and connect them or have any other good idea's?

Also, i would advise making sure theres no water getting into your rear lights

Yeah trouble is its getting to the pins in the clip =(

Knowing my luck its a rear light wiring problem... lol
