rust removal off steel wheels

  535d / t5 caravelle
got a set of steelies in the garage, which i'd like to get some winter tyres on in time for the s**t weather, there covered in surface rust, and i dont really have the time to piss about with a wire brush to clean them up, anyone got any good suggestions for cleaning them up ready to spray with rattle cans.

like i said, i dont have hours of time to spend in the garage on them, so the easier/less time consuming the better, obviously i expect to have to put some time in, any tried and tested products?

or do they need to be sent off and soaked or blasted whatever they do?

does coca cola/vinegar work lol

cheers

Yes Sand Blasting will remove any rust.

Preparation is the key to a good finish so not wanting to spend loads of time yet achieving a decent finish do not really go hand in hand.

You could just zip over them with a wire brush, give them a coat of rust retarding undercoat and then paint them to achieve an 'ok' finish.

If you can get them blasted on the cheap id go for that, then prime and paint.

Failing that as theya re simply 'winter wheels' just roll with them as they are.

As above blasting would be the best bet, failing that go down to screw fix and they sell rotary wire brushes that you can put in the end of a drill etc. They are quite good for getting rid of rust etc
