RXE Tuning,

  Renault Clio 1.6 RXE
Hi all, I know theres always the 'should i tune my 1.2' debate which of course is almost a resounding no! But having only just recently purchased my 99 Clio 1.6 rxe, i was curious is there any tuning potential in the 1.6 8v? I had considered maybe a remap, but just wondered if anyone had done this and is it even worth it? From my understanding the 8v lacks tuning potential but i thought id throw it out there and see what you guys thought :)

Waste of time/money/effort tbh. Not what you wanted to hear but thats it i'm afriad, would focus on chassis/suspension mods if your going to do any. Its only really FI stuff that gives you the gains for the money spent.

It was pretty much what i expected, Its 'Nippy' as it is so ill settle for that and just do some asthetic mods :)

Pft, RXE responds VERY well to breathing mods. get a cone filter on there with a decent cold air feed and decat, with straight through exhaust will make very noticeable differences. I never had mine remapped but I think it would have squeezed a bit more out of it again.

Cams could be worthwhile to if you are doing a cambelt change anyway, not much extra cost and with the above could make a very interesting little car.

im definately getting it remapped altho that wont be for 2months or so as im waiting on my coillies this time round(im hoping for around a 6bhp increase), and by sheer coincidence its due a cambelt change soon too, so if cams arent much more expensive on top of the change i may do that. I had a fiesta mk4 before so know very little about clios. Cheers for the advice ill look into it, im well over due to get some pics up as well so ill sort some this weekend.

the 1.6 8v lump hasnt been messed around with much, so I can only talk from my personal experience.

If you are considering remap anyway, i would get cone filter, decat and exhaust done first, then get cams, cam belt and remap all done in one go.

Cat cams have a range of cams available http://www.catcams.be/800x600/prod01Alist.htm?PN55017xx.js would speak to Paul at RS Tuning, or Matt at Tour-De-Force about which cams to buy and for mapping.

yeah ive found it slightly more difficult to find advice and parts for the 8v, it doesnt seem to be overly popular it just came up at a good price so having a 1.2 before i thought id go for it,

at the moment ive just got a backbox, the rest of the exhaust is standard, i shouldnt think a decat will be too expensive,

Any paticular kit you would recommend for the cone?

ive spoke to a couple people about remaps but makes sense to goto someone who knows renaults especially with it being a less popular engine.

At the moment it can give the mk5 zetec s run for its money but would like to get it to a stage of being a little bit quicker.

decat and straight through centre section will be cheap as chips ;)

Piper and K&N make the right type of filter, k-tec will sort you out if you email them a picture of your engine bay (well thats what I had to do) though they arent neseceraly the cheapest.

Wouldnt take my Cup to anyone other than Matt or Paul for mapping tbh.

Supersprint make a manifold and other exhaust components. Cams, exhaust. and induction + a remap will most likely see the most your going to get before spending loads on the engine. Brakes and suspension will be the most cost effective.
