S.W RR-Day Results, Pics & Videos

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
Thought I would start a thread in the media section for this as it would probably be unseen by many in the setup thread.

took very few pics on the day and all of which were not of a high standard at all, probably down to the fact that it was raining too much for my camera to be outside! But here's what I got:

My shot of the day (love where the RS badge is located on these):

(Should of moved my car back for this shot!)

Aarons 182 on P&B map!

My results: OK here's something interesting... Have just compared my RR readout I did a few months ago on the OEM map against the one done today on the 98RON map, and they are almost identical! I don't feel the 5k kick much anymore, but evidently from the graph, its still there! I was expecting my lower rev range to have been raise up a bit more to smooth out the entire rev range. Interstingly my engine power figure is both on 180.X between the 2 different rolling roads.

Still to come from me: 4 Videos including my 182, Aarons 182, Chips amazing run in the Turbo & ranger4tk's 200. (just uploading to youtube now, but its full HD so its taking ages!)

Still some nice shots there. I didn't end up taking anything in the end, and there's not much point videoing with my camera as the sound's crap. Where was the original RR you did?

Looking forward to the vids ;)

The video are uploaded at last! Took forever! thanks for letting me film your cars guys. Let me know if you want your number plate removed for some reason :)

Will only let me post 2 videos at a time so will be split over 2 posts.

My 182 - made 179.8bhp corrected:

Aarons 182 with P&B map - made 185.5bhp corrected:

ranger4tk's 200 - made 196.3 corrected:

Why would u drive with a wheel like that?

I'm pretty sure he is going to get rid of it on the next tyre change (he had it marked up with a cable tie), but until then I guess its a bit of a waste of time worrying about it. Clearly from Saturday the car works fine ;)

Drives absolutely fine on it TBH mate, it balanced up ok despite having a buckle, was surprised myself to see how much it actually was buckled by when it was on the rollers, the tyre placed mentioned it had a buckle when they balanced it (as fatty mentions I always put a cable tie on any that I am told are buckled so they dont get used again after that) but I didnt realise it was going to be that dramatic!
Will bin that one when the tyre is worn out, ive got about 40 of them so not a problem to through a few in the bin if they are particuarly bad.

So Chip What you say the transmission loss is for a 172 182 ?? as cars here showing 40 bhp loss so 140 ATW equates to 180 atfw ???

We were told at our RR day that transmission loss was 15-20 % all our figures were ATW ?

bear in mind the figures here include the rollers as part of the transmission between the retarder and the engine not just the cars losses, so the @wheels label is a little misleading.
Losses measured on rundown is a bad plan IMHO, its just not something it's possible to measure, and as such I can't give you a figure, will be different on my car than a normal 172 though as more torque means more load and hence more friction and more losses.

anyone who thinks their predicted power at flywheel from any rollers is accurate is wrong.

So the atw figure is not really the figure atw :S

Apparently not, as the measured losses include friction from the rollers themself.

People new to accept a rolling road is a tuning aid and figures can't be compared one type to a other when they use different algorithms etc.

the reason Tipton own the rollers is to allow them to tune cars, not to compare them to other roller types, same for any tuner really. It's an interesting comparison between cars on the day but then trying to compare to different rollers in different weather etc is kind of pointless. It's an approx figure. Always will be on every rolling road.

Nice figure chip, @ 308bhp the little Focus RS turbo must have been blowing harder than the wolf in the 3 little pigs haha!

Yes I know that roads all read different and are only a guide, just the transmission losses that puzzle me we were told 15-20 % loss so mine ran 142 atw so say 20 % loss transmission gives 170 atf on these rollers 140 atw gives 180 atf but 2 roads show similar or very close wheel figures on the mix of cars that run as on our rolling road day but this road shows Big figures atf not saying its wrong just puzzled thats all :S

If yours was 142 ATW and 20 losses it would be 177.5 flywheel

I think that on this day the rollers probably were over estimating the losses by about 8-10bhp or so more than the rollers I normally use (which dont measure at all, they just guess, dyno dynamics) as I mentioned in the other thread, although like Ive said in here already, for my own car my losses would actually be higher than for a normal 172 as its making more torque, and yet when measured via rundown they will both read the same as they arent under load from the engines at the time.

IMHO:
Compare on the day = useful
Compared to other rollers = not very useful

Shall we hold the next dyno day on an engine dyno? ;)

Remember to pull your engine out 20 minutes before the run.

Doesnt give an accurate representation of the breathing characteristic of your cars exhaust and induction setup then, lol

There really is no way to nail it down to the very last .1 of a bhp like people want.

Who is the guy who doesn't shut the f*ck up during the videos?

lol in chips video its Dan, the director of the event. He was talking to me as I was filming. You can tell when chips talking as you can see his mouth moving (if your watching in full Hd :p)...

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
In which case Feirny's comment makes no sense as Dan is northern, lol

I was the fairly big bloke wearing a black european rallycross fleece thing.

Just seen the wheel wobble, the bit that looks really bad at the beginning I would imagine was the operator letting the car settle itself on the rollers and hence the steering was probably twitching, they were buckled but not THAT buckled, lol

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
you sure? I cut off the first few mins of him running it slowly on the rollers. should of been settled by then I would have thought? :S

I was watching it at the time, and it looked nothing like as bad as it does at 12 seconds in, thats moving about an inch, there is no way you wouldnt feel that when driving even with it being balanced, you'd be able to see that sort of bend just by looking at the wheel and it wouldnt be possible to do the tracking.
Seriously it has a bend but not like that! No wonder someone was saying how was it driving from how that looks, lol.
