S.Wales Brecon Run - Jan '09 (Many pics)

Here are some photos from Rebel's first outing of 2009 - a run around the Brecon area, South Wales (mixed cars/marques).

Despite the poor conditions of late we were blessed with pretty good weather given the time of year. For the majority of the run it was quite pleasant (if a little wet in places) with some frozen roads on the higher grounds, which made for a few sideways moments whether intentional or not! There was also a lot of mud on the roads, and other debris that had been washed down off the hills, but it didn't spoil what was an enjoyable drive.

It wasn't too early a start for most but it was bloody freezing and it did start to snow whilst we waited for everyone to turn up at the starting point. Here are a few pics from the start of the run (mixed cars):

Having left the start point we made our way up into the Welsh hills/mountains and were greeted with some excellent views. Visibility was good, although you couldn't really take your eyes from the road as it got a liitle icy in places. Once up top we were able to stop off for a short break and to grab a few photos:

We left the mountain stop just in time... there were rally stages being held that day and the paramedics and support vehicles were just arriving to take our places as we left. A short distance on we came across a moving obstruction (of which the guys towards the back of the convoy probably had no idea and were wondering why the extremely slow pace...):

The white and woollen 'obstruction' soon cleared and the sun was out, so it wasn't all bad:

We headed up and past Brecon and soon found ourselves in cold and icy surroundings. The roads were ice-covered and this made walking difficult enough.

Following the stop up on the frozen hills we were all pretty much in need of some food and hot drinks (well, some of us) so we made our way to our designated watering and feeding hole for the afternoon meal stop. I can't talk for everyone but the coffee was very much welcomed as was the meal. I think everyone enjoyed the lunch break, or at least appeared to. It was a good opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces as well as get acquainted with some new members.

Having left our meal stop we continued the run and made our way towards the mountains once again.

After a short stay at the mountains we were back on the road again and continuing the run.

We were almost at the end of the day so we parked up to take a few more photographs and to say our farewells. Many had fair distances to travel simply to get home - Surrey, Cornwall, Oxford, Bristol, Leicestershire... and thanks go to those who travelled so far to be able to join us for this run. In addition, thanks to all for turning up and gracing us with their presence and fantastic cars. Thanks ladies and gents!

Some sweet pic's And!

And Lynda... I can't claim credit for all the photos. ;) Thanks for the kind comment all the same fella.

Are you guys thinking of an EVO triangle run at all?

We will be doing mate, yes. But we won't be making a special trip to purely drive the Triangle. As much as people will probably disagree... we believe there are much better roads around and feel that the 'Triangle is a bit overrated (controversial, eh?) :D

When we drive the 'Triangle it will be part of a larger drive/event - such as the Wales Tour that we hold each year, or a South-North-South run the length of the country. Obviously people would be more than welcome to join us (would be good to see a few more Renault's) as and when our drives/events come up. We've usually got one or two things on the go throughout the year.

Getting back to the pics above, it turned out to be a great day and luckily our friends/members had the sense to drive to the conditions. As you are probably aware it can get pretty nasty on the high ground (or in the valleys) when the temperatures are the wrong side of zero degrees! Even so, we all enjoyed the day and managed to grab photos to remember the day by. As seen in the pics you don't have to have a tricked out performance car to tag along - it's all about enjoying the drive and having a laugh with a good bunch of people.

I did get some footage from the day but it will be a while before I can edit that. I'll post it up as soon as it's done.

  ITB'd 182...
PM me the dates when you know and will try and get the CS peep's rounded up to tag along :)

Some of the best meet photos I've seen, really really good photos! What did you use.. Canon 40D, tripod/mount and a polariser?

Oh and what a great place to drive and cars to drive in too!

Thanks for the kind words - flattery will get you everywhere! :D

The camera we used was a Canon EOS 40D with only the standard kit lens on this occasion. No mounts, no tripods and all handheld. Oh yes, I did have a polarising filter fitted, too.

The mount you may have seen on the car was for the bullet video camera.

Glad you enjoyed the pics - thank you. :D

Thanks for the feedback all - appreciated.

As my Good Lady Evandim posted above, feel free to keep an eye out on our site (events / gallery) for upcoming dates of runs/events. It would be great to see a few Renault's joining us. Bear in mind that we don't advertise all of our runs so some may not appear up there. Still, if you've got a licence, a road-worthy car and a sensible attitude to driving then you'd be more than welcome.

Good pics. The mount on the trophy looks very similar to my gopro mount, do you find it sturdy enough when driving?>

Yes mate - it is extremely sturdy.

The mount and camera were loaned to me by a close friend who has an automotive media business and this particular mount has been on drag cars, drift cars and some seriously quick vehicles! :)
