Saggy cat!

My cat seems to sit very low compared to the rest of the car. I also get a whistling sound when im above 3K RPM, i've tried new clamps and gaskets, exhaust paste and sealer but i just cant get rid of it!

I don't know if this is possible but could it be an indication of worn engine mounts causing the manifold to point a bit more towards the ground than usual and then causing the cat > mani join to get pulled apart above 3K RPM?

Thanks

Have you cracked it around the flange? It's often a hairline crack so look carefully.

On the cat or manifold side? That might explain the whistle!

Il have a look tomorrow and see if i can get some pictures of how low the cat is sitting. I noticed the other day that there are big scuff marks on the bottom of the cat obv from where its scraped on speedbumps ets

I had this and changed my centre exhaust mount which didn't look tired until I compared it to the new part which is improved. Genuine improved part was seven quid. All sits straight now but it still whistles although I've given up trying to fix it now.

Improved part from Renault? Or somewhere else?

From Renault they should be red rubber instead of the older ones which had black rubber.

Sweet il pop down tomorrow.

On a different note (saves starting a new thread) Interior light doesn't work when I open the doors but works when i use the switch. The door open icon works when i open the doors though. Ideas?

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but are you taking the weight or even pushing the cat upwards when tigthening up the clamps? I only say as I didn't do this on my first attempt and it was ridiculously saggy and so I re did it and obviously held it up until it was fully tight and it's now perfect.

Like I said you may have already done this but it's something to consider anyway!

Thanks for the advice but I tightened it up with the jack under it. It almost looks like the manifold is coming down to low, I also sometimes get the bottom of the manifold knocking off the subframe which again I think is a sign that the engine mounts are shagged.
