just a quick question, which is better and why? I'm in the process of rewiring Clio 172 (standalone ecu) and just wondered if pencil coils could be used.

Looking at pencil coils, looks like I'd have to drill and tap cam cover to bolt them down ? Also which is better wasted or pencil?
I think some are using vw pencil coils iirc

The holes are already there mate. You just need to run a m6 tap down there for the securing bolt.
I'm running valeo green top coils in mine. No real gain over running the coil pack tbh and you may find the coil pack is more reliable. Some of the advantages to the coil on plug set up are it looks neater and you can run fully sequential ignition if your ecu supports it and you've got the necessary sensors for the ecu to read.

@NorthloopCup is hall have a little noisey into these, like the idea of neatness, will also have to see if the omex 600 supports these. Cheers

I'm pretty sure you'll need a cam phase sensor to run fully sequential ignition mate.
The omex 600 is too ancient to do sequential ignition.

What Ecu would you recommend ?
I use specialist components typhoons. Personally I don't get on with adaptronic, it's software isn't user friendly in my opinion.
