Sample of Clio 172 engine ported

A local garage can do the job at 680.00ukp. For all the gasket, it will cost another 136.00ukp. Is that expensive??? Attached are some pics I took with another Clio's engine.

I have questions:

1) What is the benefit of having the engine ported???
2) What happen if their technique is not good in porting???
3) anyone had done this before??

Another cool thing I found from my local garage is that they have a special made MOT pass catback exhaust system that is for the decat owner to get the MOT done :-D

thanks!

Theres no real pics of the inlet ports, or even the work "in" the exhaust ports. However, the main indicator to me that its a pretty poor job, is the "shape" on the ends of the guides, that can be seen on the third pic. This irregularity and uneven shaping is caused buy the tool inadvertantly catching the guide....i hope, as if they were purposefully shaped like that, then...hmmm lol
The person working the head hasnt really made the effort to shape them correctyl, or so that they are the same....it looks unfinnished, and crap basically.
Also typically the combustion chamber would be re-finnished.

Besides any of this, you have been quoted quite alot of money! Also, i would never go to a "garage" for this type of work. Gains can be very impressive if the work is done correctly. They can also be very very poor with negative effects if its done incorrectly.

I would advise you look at a few other places, ask around, and take it from there.

Thanks for the review and advice, actually, I don't know if it is done or not. Also, I forgot to take the pic of the inlet.

But I personally won't do it at this moment.

Just looks like they have been polished to me.
Haven't seen a finish like that before, maybe he should stick to polishing shoes.

well yes, from what we can see it just looks polished...but the shape etc cannot be seen.

dont bother going anywhere in HK for headwork, i know all the places and they are all crap.

That head is a mirror finish which again is pointless and a waste of time, so your just paying for a pretty finish. Its expensive and will see no gains as they still have the stock valve seat configurations on there.

You will definately see no gains alone unless your manifold is modified aswell.

On a side note, dont worry about the chambers not being touched, i dont on most because it isnt neccesary on F4R heads at all.
