** SAVE nearly 3K on fuel......

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

... sell your 1.2 and buy a dCi!

just had a 1.2 16V hire car for 2 days - 16V quicker than I thought, but not much mid-range and poor economy (the wifes 1.6 16v Xsara is better)

I put £20 in in 2 days - lasts a week in dCi :-(

did 43mpg easy, 37mpg hard (dCi 75mpg & 63mpg)

Im keeping my car for 5 yrs 80K, so thats £2857.00 saving on fuel!

(other costs similar - D costs about 1K more, similar insurance/servicing, lower tax, worth prolly £500-£800 more @ 5 yrs & 80K)

no Dazz - a lot of ppl pay 9K for 1.2s

(new 1.2 16v dynam with air & metallic about 8.5K)

I paid 9800 for dci with air & metallic from main dealer (11k list)

There only about £1k extra plus should be worth a few hundred more at resale (although the extra interest could be argued to be covered by this).

How you got 37mpg with hard driving? I get that if Im normal in a 1.2 Ive seen under 20mpg in one.

63mpg hard driven in a dci though your not even trying, 31.2mpg is the new DCi target and not just a sitting with the engine idling figure.

Ive had to put £25 into a petrol in the past in a single day into 1.2s

Ive just done a quick check Im about £700 up already buying a dci (not including the extra resale value) over the 1.2. The 1.2 do have more kick its all the way up the rev range which Im not a fan of in normal driving.

Dynamique 1.2 £9.3k

Dynamique 1.4 £9.7k

Dynamique dci 65hp £10k

Dynamique dci 80hp £10.5k

Thats list price (which some suckers pay)

Id say the 65dci was equal to the 1.2. The dci80 is equl to the 1.4

or drive it for 10 years and buy a V for the weekend!

P.S: 37mpg was wheelspinning from the lights and 100 flat-out on the dual!

do you drive in 1st all day Edde?

(I did manage 13mpg in a Stilo Abarth @ Oulton Park)

The Stilo was a petrol I bet so that doesnt count.;)

I dobnt know hoe you got 37mpg thee are 1.2 owners who get that in normal driving.

PS courtesy cars only have 1 gear forwards and one reverse dont they?

a chipped 80 has more torque than a 182.......

me 2 Edde - nearly ordered a 172, but a speeding ticket, claim and change of job with treble commute distance kinda fuc*ed that one!

dci only £360 fc with mods, claim & speeder!

not sure about the extra £100 extra for servicing, my service was £150 but you forgot to add the extra for the tyres, new brakes, and the cost of all the trackdays!
