Saxo Turbo

  Clio T 314hp c43 AMG
I Love it, as said his face says it all, this will no doubt turn into another "pointless in a Clio/saxo" "you could by an evo" thread.

Simply awesome.

A lad a work used to have a 106 gti with around the same spec. All done by atspeed too. Stupid fast, he could get the wheels to spin in 5th.

Currently building a new one up too.

Bit of a strong word to say s**t cars, especially on a clio forum.

I think with the money spent on a certain car a proton could be a proper quick car,and much improved.Still a proton but a quick one.

What has it got to do with what forum it is posted on? If I thought Clio's were sh*t then I wouldn't own one. It's just an opinion. I'm pretty sure that alot of people think Saxo's are alot better than Clio's, which I have no problem with.

No doubting that it is an epic bit of kit, although I'd love to see how much it has actually cost. I bet he could have had a pick of quite a few newer performance cars.

Lol, I'm aware that I drive a Clio.

But Saxo's are the biggest piles of sh*t going. I couldn't care less if it could blow Veyrons into next week, I would rather walk.

All IMO of course, I understand alot of people like them and say they are great cars/great to drive etc. I just despise them.

Although by stripping it he has vastly improved the interior.

A Clio is only a newer version of the Saxo, so don't get too ahead of yourself ;)
Tbf, a Saxo is much more fun to drive than the Clio imo. I don't miss my 172, i do miss my VTR. Yes, the 172 was faster - buy a GTI/VTS and you'll stick with one until you're hitting illegal speeds. But the steering feel is far, far better.
Something i was quite gutted about - always wanted a 172 and when i got it i felt slightly disappointed. Preferred my Saxo in almost every single way.

Haha, only a matter of time for that video to appear here. Known Wayne a while, good lad and has spent a small fortune on that car. It did blow a fuel injector out on the way home though but is all fixed now. Cant speak highly enough of Atspeed racing. Great attention to detail and very impressive mapping skills. They have a red 106 with circa 500Bhp and a white rallye they are working on for FCS will be making roughly the same.
Glad my car is going to them then!!!

Is this Wayne 'the detailers'? I thought he was going for bodies for some reason, haven't followed his PT in ages though! Nice to see someone has actually stuck at it unlike some!

Scrap that, just been on SaxP. It is his :)

I think the Clio shape has aged ok tbh, Saxo's look very dated now. No doubt in a couple/few years the Clio will be the same. And as an overall package a 1*2 is light years ahead of a Saxo. Possibly the worst interior of any car I've been in.

I'll agree, interior is shocking. But screw that, rip it all out, couple of buckets! The Clio interior is definitely a lot better.
I just think as a drivers car, the Saxo is a lot better. The other night a really clean Amazon Green VTR passed me and my mates, i was in love with it. Really nice, tidy, almost standard example. I never get like that with Clio's :( And i've owned 3 of them lol.

Like i say though, you want a safe comfortable, quick car the 172/182 is a good choice. I couldn't really fault mine except for the fact it didn't give me a buzz.

Boils down to the fact people want different things from their car. Even if I did like them I think they would still be abit raw for me. You atleast get a slight compromise with a 1*2, although compared with alot of other cars the interior/quality of a 1*2 is pretty bad.

Personally I quite like Saxo's. I just hope the boy doesnt bin it after saving and putting all that money into it, he looks like a decent/sensible lad though!

Many years ago when i first met Wayne he binned a Gold vtr quite badly and it definatly helped him. If that makes sense. He treats this car with respect and is running it at its lowest setting for a while till he gets used to everything. Colin from Atspeed (has a 500bhp 106) is taking him on track a few times to help Wayne get used to it and learn the car etc. Should be on track at FCS if the weather holds out for ten mins.

And yes Chip, this is his. I thought it was going bodies till late last year when it got randomly dropped of at Atspeed.

Awesome, great to see someone follow a project up instead of just talking the talk.

Aa much as I love my clio's (I've had 2 of them a 172 & my current 197) I also love my Saxo's, I started with a 1.1 an then onto a wicked red vtr, which I lowered on some pro race 1.2's full magnex system with decay piper can an remap an a lightened flywheel. I think the Saxo is certainly a bit less luxury but its certainly a cracking handling car an I personally think the driving position is better then the Clio as standard as your not sat as high up. All in all I love both of them.

I think its great, but what i love the most, is that it stills looks fairly standard ;)

Epic motor.

1 reason I'm put off Saxo's (from his thread none the less)

Hello guys i'm back at home now got heavy whiplash, sore hip, sore ankle, cuts and bruises, btw i wasn't speeding just so everyone knows, i was doing 55 to 60 tops, if you don't believe then thats up to you, but i was in the car and that was what i was doing, i'm totally gutted tbh with you all, just had it all sprayed from the bodyshop also, was looking forward to putting a valver and cage in, still getting the cage but will be going in something else, the police said i'm lucky to have not broke any bones or dead tbh, the back end just skimped there was nothing i could do, as i tried most things to correct the car, when i corrected it it made it worse, some people probably say why didn't you rip the bar up i could of rolled if i did that or dead, all i'm saying is i drive round that corner most weeks and know what to expect tbh, i don't think i will have another saxo tbh well if i'm having one it's just going on track and get a clio 182for daily use. i went to see the car today, suspension failure and two blow outs, also the driveshaft has popped on the passenger side so that could be why i skimped. i'm not going to put pictures up of it for now as i want to remember it as the mintest saxo i've ever had
smiley19.gif
also wasn't my fault tbh

That was his previous car from what I can see. If you are to believe what he posted above about the speeds it's pretty scary.

Glad he's put a cage in this weapon though because it's MENTAL by the looks of things.

lol. That was doing considerably more than 55mph.

My 106 was hit by a corsa doing 47mph (according to the police report than banned the other driver for 2 years) and as you can see, the shell has stood up far better than the saxo at '55mph':

If you lose the backend of a clio at xxx mph, then hit a dry stone wall, it will make a mess as well tbh.

  Leon Cupra 300
My mate got hit up the arse by a 997 Turbo doing close to 100mph in a current shape A4 Avant. Made a right mess, roof off job. Will try get a pic.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Bet thats a quick little car with being so light, probably has similar power to weight ratio to my nova even though its only 350bhp just cause those things weight about the same as a fag packet.

Will look forward to seeing it out on track at FCS.

Great little saxo that, probably far too dangerous for road use though.

Looking a pics of crashed cars does make me think

Certianly wouldnt be using all the power down country lanes, but on motorways and dual carraigeways IME of driving cars similar pace and quicker you do use all the power but you just dont hold it open for as long as you would in a slower car.
Ie you still nail it up to whatever speed you are comfortable with just to feel the acceleration but instead of backing off at a mile when you reach 140 in your 172 you back off at half a mile when you reach the same speed in a faster car instead, otherwise you are just risking your license too much.
I just dont do those sort of speeds anymore as its not worth the risk.

Mate of mine got clocked at 178mph and we were all amazed he didnt do time for it, Im pretty sure these days he would though as that was a few years ago.

178mph! What was he driving?

I always said I'd never own another saxo unless it was something mental.

Like that one in the video.

20 year old ford escort. lol

Its just a good job that the copper with the radar gun wasnt on the next bridge, he'd just stopped at the services and had only pulled out about a mile before the bridge where the copper was so was still accelerating quite hard, could easily have ended up being 190+ if the copper was a little further along!

  Many Things
I've just realised this is Waynes saxo, met him a few years ago at FCS and trax, think it was 2008 from memory, was a sound lad and well into his detailing back then when myself and pred were doing it as a hobbie.

As I dont bother with sax-p anymore I never knew he even had this, nevermind absolutely destroying his old vtr.

Mental car! Not sure I would put that sort of money into any car worth so little though, unless of course money was no object or I could do most of the work myself to save on labour costs. To give it to them to do the work must of easily been over 10k but its his money at the end of the day so obviously its up to him :) Looks mint.

I suppose it depends what he does with it. If he keeps it and runs it for five years then it's no worse then going and buying a brand new corsa vxr or cliosport etc. if he sells it after 5 minutes (as I probably would) then it's not the best idea.

wayne took me out in this last sunday, with it only at 200bhp odd, and i can honestly say it scared me, want another go when he's running it at full boost

Actual LOL at people thinking a Clio is far superior to a Saxo.

Anyway, such an epic car TBH. Fair play to the lad, like people have said, saving up his hard earned on something he loves. Although he'll never be able to use it to it's full potential, it's a cool weapon to own.

I knew his old VTR would crop up in this thread, it was most probably his fault, due to speed, but people live and learn.

  Phase 2 172 Sport
Ive got alot of time for the lad tbh just from reading his thread on Sax-P. He has a nice car and as was said previously he looked like a kid in a sweet shop. It's his pride and joy no matter what car it is. Just because we don't all agree does it really matter. Surely every thing would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

Wouldn't mind a passanger read in the weapon :D !!
