Saxo VTS vs Clio 182 CUP

  RB182cup&golf gti

I currently own an 03 plate VTS which ive had from new and have just ordered a 182 CUP which should be arriving early Decemember.

Do you think ill notice a major difference between the two cars, ive read loads of good reviews of the 182 in that its quicker than cars in the class above it?

The Saxo is quick although it recently struggled against a mondeo TDi (!!!) and a Sportka (modded)

You will get a lot more toys with the 182 and it should feel a fair bit more “solid” than your VTS. It will be a bit quicker but should feel a fair bit quicker due to having a lot more torque from the 2.0 engine compared to the 1.6 engine in the VTS.

Ive had a 106 GTi and a Clio Cup, the main thing youll notice is the amount of extra grunt you have at lower revs...

The 1.6 16v GTI/VTS engine is a cracker, but needs to be worked and can be a little flat below 5k rpm and hasnt got a massive amount of torque, the Clio has though!

Road race. lol.

Just one more thing - how do you run in a new engine? ive read somewhere that youre meant to thrash it right from the word go where as the manual says bed it in over 1000 miles or so??

i got rid of an 02 plate vts for my racing blue 182 , 182 feels a lot more solid has more torque , and gives a different driving experience

saying that , i loved my vts, a fantastic car - loads of fun .

running in - gave it some welly in the first 20 miles or so then fairly gentle until 650 miles

enjoy!!!

My mate has a 106 Gti and to be honest i only start to hammer him and pull on him when i select third gear..... 1st and second on a road there is very little dif, the clio will pull slightly but not a huge amount, craking cars the GTis, ( VTss are the same as GTis almost so................... )

Forgot to say, dont expect the 182 to be at its full peotential untill say 10000 miles? Thats when it really gets lose, but other than that 5000 plus u will notice it to get better onwards from there

I went from a Vts to my 182.You will notice quite a difference in performance and a massive humungous difference in equipment.

I loved my Vts and it will always be one of my favourite cars no matter what i own,if i never had one i would of always regretted it but i was lucky enough to own one.A cracker of a car but be prepared to fall in love with the 182 !!!

Definately Clio over vts. My last car was a vts......i killed that tho:(

Got a 52plate cup with insurance money........VERY pleased!!!!

U will defo notice a difference, as mentioned above the power is there

straight away:)

whereas vts gets going after 4000revs.

Vts still a cracking little car, but clio much more solid, etc.

Good work mate, have fun;)

Ive just gone from a VTS to a cup and its basically as everyone says really, the clio has much more low down power, although the VTS really flies above 4500k, in terms of overall prformance there isnt a great deal in it, although the Clio feels stronger, both fantastically fun cars

The VTS is a very underated car only drove it for six or so months but carried on where my 205 left off electric throttle response and brillaint steering only critisism is that it feels tiny when your driving it and pretty basic its also impossible to off load for a decent price!! the 182 is a vastly better car overall though!

VTS rocks but ive moved on but as previously said - i glad i owned one and it will always be one of the best!!

The 172 is a lot quicker after 60 as well and theres no flat spot like the vts has at around 4k.

Though a decat on a vts takes the flat spot away!

Good choice mate!!

cheers for the feedfack folks, think i will miss the saxo but then again its now on its 4th cat which the garage have no explanation for plus the alarm keeps going off for no reason, apart from that weve had some fun times!

  Golf R32 & 172 CUP

lol the alarm will be dodgy ultrasoni sensors on the a pillars! one fo the most common faults with the vts/106 gti!

Youl miss the vts after a while but not because the clio isnt better - i was only looking at some pics of my maritious blue vts last night it was lowered on the standard 15 vts rims it looked class!

But the clio is superior, but heyt i get to drive the 106 gti around as well so technically i have both lol
