Scandinavia Road Trip!

  Focus, GSXR1000 & R6
Following on from all the other road trip threads and doing the same as a lot of other people thinking 'I must do that one day' I decided to give it a go, instead of going to France, Spain or Germany I decided on somewhere different. I planned a stop in Copenhagen (A city I have visited 15+ times that a love) and the furthest point being Mantorp park near Linkoping in Sweden where the STCC was taking place, being supported by Radical Sportscars (Who I work for) and a chance to see something different.

I was away from 17th - 24th September, covering 2099 miles in my Clio, with no faults!

My route over was roughly as follows with a few detours on the way.

So I left around 11am on Saturday 17th and made my way down to the Euro tunnel, got caught in traffic on the M25 and missed my train, a great start! Thankfully I was able to get on the next train and leave for France around 17:20. I arrived in France and was only diving for around 30mins when I arrived in Belgium and saw this:

Not so clear but some great open long roads

Along with some nice bridges, if I remember correctly this is in Holland

I then stopped around midnight, after my sat nav messed me around for 30mins for a night in Bremen. At this point I had covered just under 1000miles.

I got up late, around 11am and set out for Denmark, spending an hour driving around Hamburg just to have a look around.

Over another bridge

And I arrived in Denmark, I stopped in the first service station to check on my directions and stretch my legs, some interesting warning signs there

Although I never saw one pig herd!

Once travelled over the first island I arrived at the second and a massive great bridge with a toll of around £25 , it was around 15miles long though with a rather random island half way across.

I then made it across to the third island and stopped at a town called Ringsted, were a friend used to live so topped up on cheaper petrol well I had a chance and a quick photo outside his old apartment

As you can see had all sorts of weather and the car was getting dirty!

Around 20:30 I arrived in Copenhagen and checked into my hotel, also paid just over £60 to park my car for 3 nights!

All tucked up for the first night in the dry:

Once I eventually got up I decided to go and visit the castle that Shakespeare based his Hamlet story at in Helsingor

Once back in Copenhagen struggled to get my car around as the world cycling championships were taking place and alot of roads were closed

And saw this in the car park which I liked!

Not many other photos from Copenhagen as seen most of it before but to give you an idea of the surroundings

I then travelled on up to Linkoping in Sweden, along with a detour to visit a friendly race team who where building there own house!

Went over the bridge and tunnel (Oresund Bridge) into Sweden, again around £35 each way!

And after around 4.5hrs I arrived at the apartment

The next day I chilled out and went to visit the Swedish air force museum, two hangers full of planes!

Also underground a C-3 that was shot down by the Russians on something like 1952 and found in 2003, where it was then recovered I found it amazing, not in a good way but something that makes you think

Then spent the next two days (Friday and Saturday) at Mantorp park for the Swedish touring cars along with a few other classes, including bikes which I thought gave a nice mix! (Sorry for even more pics!)

I then spent the night before travelling across to Denmark again to Esbjerg for my ferry back to Harwich, this left at 18:45 local time on the Saturday and arrived in the UK at midday on the Monday, I then drove the 2.5hrs home hitting traffic on the A14 and seeing a pig herd, after seeing neither in Europe. I instanly became annoyed at the Uk driving again:mad:

In total I covered 2099 miles with the car averaging 38.8mpg.

I apologise for the long write up and lots of pictures but I am just trying to make it clear to everyone that you must do a road trip! I have spent along time thinking I must one day do it and so glad I have. Roll on getting my bike test sorted and doing something similar on 2 wheels!

Haha thanks, the pigs made me chuckle as well.

Scandinavia is awesome, if I could find a job out there I would go tomorrow!

What a great and different trip! Am I right in thinking thats biohzrds old car? Used to be really low?

Thanks, yeah its his old car, wound up around 45mm on the front and coil over springs back in in the rear, it will be dropped again soon but no way was I getting on Ferry's and trains with the car as low as it was! :rasp:

  Focus, GSXR1000 & R6
looks like a good trip, although you need to get the coilys wound back down!!

Ha I am still trying to decided if I should wait till after the winter as struggled in the snow this year!

Trip to Nurburgring next year? ;) Its a must for me at some point!

  Discounted 1*2 parts

love the STCC, the bikes are mixed in as there isnt a big enough following in Sverige & Norge to have its own class

  Focus, GSXR1000 & R6
Looks like you planned it out nicely!

Thought i'd be the only one doing a Scandinavian road trip on here!

Just taken a look through your thread, well jealous of the car and looked like you had an awesome trip.

My love of dk came from an x that was half Danish!

On a side note tried to find you a month or two back at Donington when I was there with the Radical's but failed, are you at Snetterton in a few weeks time?

Yeah the racing was good and was nice to see bikes mixed in, something different!

You involved in any way with it or just enjoy following it? Sorry for the ignorance but guessing from the use of Swedish that you have a link in some way!
