Does it still have the OEM cat fitted? I willing to be that’s been removed for an aftermarket one. Also who did the belt service on it? These need doing by someone who knows what they are doing otherwise the timing will be out, amount of people who are sold a car as being ‘canned’ or that’s how they all are, based on a lumpy idle. They aren’t! I would also suggest a smell of fuel and rough running will be an injector. 182’s eat them, so a consumable item. Most problems with these cars nowadays seem to stem from
1) lambda sensors - use proper Bosch ones
2) injectors - fit only OEM MM ones
3) white plug of death - as mentioned earlier
4) poorly or incorrectly times engine.

*IF* it’s the guy I’m thinking of he seemingly trades them as I’ve seen a fair few on eBay and Facebook all with the centre caps removed because he “can’t match the powder coat” done on all the cars. As I say the FB posts normally descend into people slating him for it etc (why it sticks in my mind)

I do vaguely remember a FB post of him finding the car to sell on and posting about it which is a bit odd in itself as prob best to keep shut up and just flog it.

Obviously it might not be him and this could of come via him as the powder coat & lack of caps is his signature.

But there’s so many on FB trading clios and you’ll see one for sale Monday and it’ll be at one of the traders Wednesday for a load more. I get that it’s the nature of the trade but does seem a bit odd to me buying direct from the pages and reselling to the same pages at inflated prices, just asking for grief. (and I’ve been in the motor trade most of my adult life)
Exactly how I remember it, bascules of the centre caps. I also remember this car and the others being listed on eBay. But I can’t find the posts now. I may have it wrong, but I don’t think I have

Yes he did mention the cat had been replaced. Just found this in the documents. Anyone know or remember him?

So yeah, he has removed the Original Renault Cat which is worth about £500 and replaced it with an eBay special. Which will get you through one MoT if you are lucky. Sorry mate, don’t wish to pluck holes in your purchase. But it’s not looking great.

Hi I sold my Monaco blue 172 turbo to a right wheeler dealer type of guy who took all the easy to sell bits off, then had it for sale on Facebook weeks later. I’m pretty gutted I had to sell it and that the guy turned out to be a bit of a trader breaker type who ruined the car. I’m guessing he put my membership card that was in my old 172 in the paper work for your car? This was mine

Yeah it does and most of the receipts have my cars reg written on them. Anyway the car is booked in to DDC for Monday. So I'm going to take @Joejordan advice who kindly messaged me and chill out for the weekend. I will report back once I have had the car looked at by DDC. Thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it.
Cheers Simon.

Sorry to read about your car problems mate I would try and get any jobs done by a Renault sport specialist and avoid normal garages, they end up changing good parts over when chasing faults which always adds up.

  Peug 205 clio 182
Update. I had the car at DDC last week. They gave it a good once over for me and managed to get my lights working. Here is there report of what the car needs.
Upstream oxy sensor
4 new injectors
Hazrd light switch (done)
Heater fan motor (waiting on ebay order to arrive)
Steering angle sensor
1st gear syncro
Also brakes getting ready to be changed.
All in all its not end of the world but obviously going to cost me a few quid. The guys at garage seemed to think it was a good car but obvious to them that it has been stood for a long time.
Big thumbs up to the guys at DDC they were great. Highly recommend for anyone in the Yorkshire (Doncaster) area.

  Peug 205 clio 182
Will you forward the list to the seller?
Sent him this.
Finally managed to get the car looked at by a renaultsport specialist. The results are not good. Here is a list of what the car requires. 4 new injectors. New thermostat. Upstream oxy sensor. Hazard light switch. Heater fan motor. Steering angle sensor. Front and rear brakes. 1st gear syncro. An assortment of relays and fuses. New rear light lamp holders. As you can imagine I'm less than happy. Total cost well over a grand. I think the least you should be doing is offering me some money back as a result of this or even better you could take the car back and refund me.

Here is the sellers reply.
Thanks for getting back to me.

Injectors are £32 a set. And given the car drives, they can't really be broken. Either way they are cheap.

Lambda is £21

They take a few minutes to fit. It's an easy job. I'd say £442 is a pretty silly quote. The reason it's so high is they aren't Renault specialists, I've checked their website and there's no mention of it at all?

I've driven the car and it's never crunched first gear, so I don't think it needs a syncro. It didn't crunch either when you left, nor did you mention it on your way back?

Heater fan is £14 for a new relay, or £25 for a working 2nd hand fan.

Brakes don't need doing either, they are to MOT standard which was less than 50 miles before I sold you the car.

You've had £250 off the price, which seems like more than enough to cover what actually needs doing, with money to spare. You're quids in, don't worry yourself.

Goes without saying, but if the seller knows anything about these cars, they're very sensitive to the right injectors. Proper Magnetti Marelli not chinese clones from eBay, they're more like £40x4, not £32 for a set.
Everyone on here will tell you to only use Bosch lambda sensors too, £50 or so. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172991958339
Pretty telling about the seller, I'd be very tempted to try and push for a return personally, who knows what other cheap s**t they've put on the car.

The guys at DDC know there stuff and I will be following there advice and letting them do the work.

I think the least he should do is offer me some money back. He advertised it for 6k I offered 5k and he refused. In the end I paid £5750 for it. I would be happy with the £750 refunded, but its not going to happen. Obviously he doesn't have a conscience. And unfortunately I don't have any leverage in which to claim the money back. I could never knowingly sell a car to a genuine buyer like he has.

You won’t see penny one from that seller I’m afraid, the gearbox is the most expensive bit to sort.

You’ll have more chance finding hens teeth than getting a working steering angle sensor.

Seems like you’re prepared to stick with the car and not go for a refund. Again there’s no guarantee you’ll get a better car if you do get a refund unless you buy one from an honourable club member on here. But as I’ve found out, they don’t want to sell. At least you’ll eventually get it sorted and you’re richer for the experience.

I’m afraid the lad selling it comes across that way on FB. I wouldn’t fit any of the bits he linked, he can’t have it both ways quoting Renault specialists and moody injectors and lambda sensors in the other…interesting he sells plenty of clios, as such is a trader and need to offer you all the benefits of buying a car from a motor trader. Depending on how far you are willing to take it really… I would however make sure you name and shame on this forum so others keep half an eye out in the future

Looking at his fb page he just buys and sells them adding a margin on, I doubt you could call him a trader although that’s what he is doing. I think he could make out it’s a private sale in the eyes of the law unless he used the trade section of the v5c, most of them just seem to hold onto the whole v5c and it’s still in the old owners name. I have seen a few people do this on Facebook and most would be classed as private sellers as they make out their selling it for a mate, I try to avoid them but sometimes they have the juiciest cars as they offer quick cash to desperate sellers.

Then that makes him a trader. There is no minimum number needed to qualify as a trader, just definition of buying a car solely for the purpose of resale and profit. There is plenty of evidence that points exactly to this.

i mean the chances of pushing anything through, other than small claims are very slim. But you could, just spend an hour screen shot everything from the clio Facebook groups.

or, just put it down to experience. Make sure you do your best to inform others and get on with life.

I'm going to keep the car obviously. I will learn from this I'm sure. The guy seemed absolutely genuine to me and sounded like he had a good knowledge of the car. It was his stance on the price of the car that convinced me that it was a good un. I will invest in the car and make it proper. Then I'm going to enjoy owning it hopefully 🙏

I agree he is a trader I’m just saying he can make out he isn’t and get away with it if push came to shove.

I'm not going to waste my time and patience trying to claim anything back from him. The guys obviously a dick and I'd only end up losing my ginger temper and clumping him one.

As Dave. said, you could try the small claims court it’s not very expensive at all and if he doesn’t turn up you will most likely win although you would need to give up the car and by then you might have fixed it all.
