  ph1 172 Black
Everybody knows the ph1 is a poor man's ph2, even the SEAT boys :p

What ph1 is the original! They are lighter for a start. They had to change gear ratios on ph2 to keep 0-60 times. If you want a load of extra crap that don't make you go any faster then go ahead. I mean cruise control cause of electronic throttle, I'd rather have cable throttle response. Then the shoddy auto lights and that!

I got a ph1 cause I remember when they came out and what a stir they caused. 172 is a poor mans 182. I mean come on! Daftest comment ever. Matter of taste.

TBH honest the SEAT does look nice and I nearly got a Leon Cupra in yellow but always fancied a ph1 172 in black.

  182 Trophy 019/500
how does the 225 leon compare to a 182 you think?

The Leon was a nice 'lazy' car to drive, just float along on a bit of boost however it was not fun. When i was driving it i was always thinking back to the clio days - thinking if i was in the clio i would blip the throttle, change down and then speed up for roundabouts  however the leon didnt really corner that well (big spanish arse).

I have a big grin each time i drive the clio! Which i never really got in the Leon. It was nice! Just wasn't fun. It would appeal if i had a wife and kids... But i don't... So... out go the rear seats in the trophy

Another thing to add to that is that I see ph2 172/182's every other day, The only time I see a ph1 172 is mine in window reflections!!!

i think over 60 extra 10bhp might edge slightly away

Not really. Totally caining the thing, maybe - but StevieGreenstuff can easily stay with mine in his Ph1 172. And don't forgot the moving goal-posts of Reno performance figures. For all you know, your 182 might only just manage 170bhp? :rasp:

I personally think the Ph.1 172s look great - special, without being in-your-face. Rare to see them knocking about too, I find.

Clio RS vs Ibiza Cupra remaped

straight line (Ibiza) 0 -1
handling (Clio) 1 -1
Fun(Clio) 2 -1
long relaxed journey's e.g motorways (Ibiza) 2 -2
Comfort (prob say ibiza but clio has slightly better spec) 2 -3
Reliability (clio SO Far!) 3-3

It's interesting to read what people's views are on this point having owned both!
Both cars have strong points and to say which is better depends on what you want as a driver. The clio handles alot better and is alot more fun, adjustable and involving on a spirited drive however, the Ibiza is quicker
in a staight line and there is a really big difference in the mid range. This also makes the Ibiza a more relaxed and comfortable partner on long jornney's esp with the higher gearing.

I owned a remapped Ibiza for 2 years and 45,000 miles and i found it great car and I now own a 182. There are times when I miss the SEAT and others when I really don't.

where in somerset are you? cos you really boring me and il merrily drive up to somerset from london to prove theres f**k all in between 172's /cups/182's. all down to driver ability(im down in taunton once a month so if your near we have a little meet up to say hello). only advantage i could see from 172's/182's to the ph1 172 is the better suspension set-up but if your still a crap driver (that better kully) you will stil get your arse raped if you dont know what your doing. jayxx83 of here who has a 182ff and we get about abit and we both shift through gears as good as each other everytime its the same story. 1st gear the ph1 172 is pulls a tiny little abit then in 2nd he pulls the gap back and by the time we get to speeds the car cant go any quicker his half a car length in front. but i wouldnt try it now if i was him.... ;)

you did see my post right fella?got deleted as he thought i called u a r****d when clearly it wasnt direct to you dude.

lol, could have sworn i read a post which disapeared! lol
thought it was the night shift playing with my head!

Ibizia's are pap, my Williams would keep up within about 4 car lengths 1st through 4th gear against my mates 260bhp one... although how it made 260bhp @ the fly with 198.9bhp @ the wheels I'll never know... not that impressive really for FMIC, bigger turbo and mapped and the handling is nothing short of abysmal (sp?)

Isn't the Ibiza based on an old model Golf/Polo, they aren't exactly well known for good handling!

I used to have a cupra 20VT which made 220BHP and 265 ftlbs and it was very quick, standard k03 turbo runs out of steam quickly and dies off at about 5k revs. I had brembo brakes with 303mm rotors so it did stop well too. Handling was shocking on std suspension though. Sold it to get a delta evo which had 260 bhp - the cupra kept up with it no problem on the straights.

For straight lines the cupra would leave the clio for dust (i own a ph2 172 now) but the Clio is much more buzzy and feels much better round the corners. The dash on the seats is awful and the engine management on them has a mind of its own.

All said and done, I regret selling my cupra and am thinking of selling my 172 to buy another cupra..

The Phase 1 Clio does look kinda dated, purely coz the Phase 2 172 came out and still looks fresh today.
People who own different cars don't necessarily know the potential of other brands/models.
In the same way I don't know much about Ibizas they clearly don't know much about Clio 172s!!! And why would they.

Only thing to say is, if they pull up next to any 172 or 182 they might get a surprise, even with the wheels being 'too small' and that its 'not low enough'!!! lol
