Second car pointers/advice

Okay then, I'm looking to get a second car pretty soon within the next 6 months or so.
So far, I'm looking at 3 cars which perform much better than the 1.2 Clio I currently have.

The cars in question;

2000-2005 Honda Civic 1.6

2007-2014 Renault Twingo 1.2

2010-2015 Honda CRZ 1.5

Anybody have any guidance (particularly for the twingo) as to what the common faults are?

I just need something small and better on fuel as a run about back and forth from work until I can afford something decent

I mean for my next car, I want to get rid of the Clio


-I'm not looking for a decent car to own right now, just something that's better on fuel, I'm not giving too much of a sh!t of the car looks good, if it's fast etc... that's not the goal in life right now haha!
Imo, these three look pretty decent anyway, as well as being way better for fuel consumption!

I'm also not asking what car I should get out of the three either, these are just the three I'm looking at to get one eventually.

I get about 30-34 mpg! This is what I'm saying, the cars I'm looking at are better for fuel haha.
Also, just out of curiosity, what app is that?!

It's called Road Trip, I've used it for years, awesome for keeping track of mpg.

You're replacing it with a car that will be just as bad on fuel.

Lupo sdi for the win. I got 73mpg the other day and it runs on straight veg oil at £16 for 20L

CRZs are actually awesome. Pricey though, but they do return 40-50mpg.
Such a random selection of cars, I can't offer advice because they're so different tbh.

Not looking for comparison advice between the 3 of them to see what's the best car out of the 3. Random yes maybe, but they're so much better than what I already have.

Eugh... another typical stereotype...

I know that Civics are pretty reliable as far as the engine goes, has better mpg and is pretty cheap to run & maintain.

Twingo has far better mpg and is cheap enough to maintain and run, parts around my area are pretty easy to get as well.

CRZ has decent mpg, though it's a hybrid and parts are not so cheap

-basically I'm swaying between the Civic and Twingo, bearing in mind it's just a daily that I'll be needing for the next 2-3 years or so. I don't do a tonne of driving, just back and forth from work and to my girlfriends, other than that I don't drive anywhere else, every week I do somewhere between 250-350 miles

I had the 133 years ago when they were new and it was great. Peanuts to run too since they're basically a Mk2 Clio underneath.

I'd just keep the Clio, false economy to spend say 5k on a CR-Z to save a little bit on Fuel.

I'd keep that money until you can afford something you really want.

Out of those i'd pick the CRZ just because it looks the best of that bunch.
Secondly when you sell in a few years time it will hold some value as we head into the hybrid car explosion.

Buy a £500 mk2 dCi 100.

It will do 70mpg and feel much faster than your 1.2 as it has as much torque as a 172.

Spending more than £500 to save money is a ridiculous idea.

It's not just a question of spending to save fuel, it's reliability as well on top of that for the next few years. The clio is just scrap at this point

What's wrong with it? You can fix Mk2's for about £8 these days.

Tyres, bearings, springs, shocks, tranny mounts, handbrake cable, horn, steering alignment, rust on the bodywork.
I just cbf keeping it, been hitting the bank too much to sort it out so it needs to go once I've sorted the priority stuff.

Shouldnt you have a budget. Then a set of requirments for car ie no of doors , seats , hatch, saloon etc Then a realistic target mpg then see what fits. It seems a really random selection of vehicles you have posted.

Reliability and cost to run is all I'm looking at right now buddy.

You seem like a right nice guy so I don't want to shoot you down in flames but all these things as consumables which will need doing on every car sooner or later.

Out of the list, I'd go for the Honda, purely because I think they look pretty cool and it'd be newer so you would expect less problems and less consumable parts that would need changing.

If you're wanting decent mpgzzzz, get a Clio DCI or Lupo SDI like dannnn479632493264236492364976324 or anything VAG with the 1.9tdi engine which seems to be pretty bullet proof.

Are those trips mainly motorway trips or your general everyday pootling around ?

I very very rarely go on a motorway, mainly A/B road stuff. Likewise I hardly do any city driving.

I have a mk6 1.4 turbo on a 10 plate which returns 35mpg round town going to school. I couldn't justify the premium of a tdi or the potential horrendous engine repair bills if it were to go wrong just for an extra 15mpg.
I also do sod all miles which also helped when buying the petrol version.

I thought the 1.4turbo engine VW made was an awful avoid engine? Genuine question as my brother been looking but we avoided that engine?
