Second car pointers/advice

  Golf Mk6 tdi
I have a mk6 1.4 turbo on a 10 plate which returns 35mpg round town going to school. I couldn't justify the premium of a tdi or the potential horrendous engine repair bills if it were to go wrong just for an extra 15mpg.
I also do sod all miles which also helped when buying the petrol version.

Agree with the petrol vs diesel but I do over 20k.

I thought the 1.4turbo engine VW made was an awful avoid engine? Genuine question as my brother been looking but we avoided that engine?

The 1.4TSI twin charger from the Mk5 is the one to avoid. The 1.4TSI turbo from the Mk6 onwards is fine. Although something in the back of my head is saying the twin charger was used in the Mk6 but is 160bhp guise. Argh, someone who actually knows what they're on about can confirm haha. They key point is the twin charger was dropped some time ago.

The 1.4 tsi in the mk6 is fine and the 120bhp version that I have is the one to go for. The 160bhp version is the less reliable version. In hot conditions they sometimes seem to over fuel and this reduces bore lubrication leading to piston failure. The other problem was a timing chain in the mk5 version where if the car was left parked on a hill in gear it would slip back the chain and cause bent valves. VW did a recall and good will gesture to repair them from what ive read.

id be getting a DCI and mapping it will be much better on fuel than any of the above, insurance is cheap as hell (assuming you are quite young) (had a MK 3 DCI for my first and GT DCI for my second car) tax is cheap, uber reliable can't see what the draw back is

Landed myself a well paid bit of work (self employed)
So for the money at the end, I've decided I'm just going to keep the Clio just now and at the end of the job, I'll be getting something bigger and better! Happy days!!
