Sending My Poorly Xbox Away...

I have the '3 rings of death' on my Xbox, I've contacted Microsoft and requested a repair.

I was just wondering how many people have done the same. How long should I expect to wait for it, and what packaging did people use to send it away?

Any useful advice would be helpful too.

Thanks,

Ste.

LOL. I use my Xbox so much that I've already requested a repair once before and forgotten all about it!

I've got two for sale if you want one that badly!

As I've already mentioned, I applied to get it repaired before and managed to forget lol. It's fair to say I don't play it much!

Thanks for the offer though, if I have any issues I'll be interested :)

i sent mine off on 23rd of december and it came back just before new years i think.

wrapped it in bubble wrap and sent off in a a4 photo copy paper box, taped up etc.

got the same one back despite what people say about there being a line of replacements ready to be sent out. been fine since.

I like your packaging idea, I might just do the same. Cheers :)

no worries, was all could get my hands on at the time but worked well. just a boat load of bubble wrap, xbox in long ways, then pack out the sides of the box, and then tape the lid on. hope you get it back soon.

my premium red ringed last night (its been previously repaired for the same fault) I unplugged it and re-connected it and it was working fine again (although I haven't used it much since). Its out of warranty so if it does it again I'll have a go at repairing it myself (i've nothing to lose) and I've also got my Elite downstairs but would like to keep the two of them running.

I dont really understand why people say this. I got an xbox on release day and have been getting them repaired for the 3 red rings fault ever since, no questions asked.

I dont think there is an 'Out of Warranty' for this fault... well not one i've come across yet anyway!

I believe that in order to avoid a massive payout in the USA Microsoft agreed to give a three year warranty for the 'red ring of death' fault. As long as when you call them you stick to the ''it's got the three red lights'' story they will ask you to send it back for repair.

I'm on my third one with the longest wait being ten days. Just make sure you don't leave and discs inside or the HD attached as you may never see them again.

Mine was away for just over a week.

The one I received was a different one, or it at least had a different drive and outer case.

  Turbos.
Ignoring the fact it broke in the first place, the service they do is pretty good. They pick it up for you and i must have gotten a replacement Xbox in about a week. Obviously wasn't my one, but it had kept all my data and i had all the latest software.

Also, the 3 year warrenty now goes for the "E74" error code... Which I believe to be related to the Graphics Card dying?... I have just had to sent mine back lol. It doesn't bother me much now as we have 3 Xbox 360's (1 for each brother) and we have sent them all back at some stage so know what generally happens lol.

ok, so just rang Xbox and they aren't interested. They only want to charge me to repair it.

Anyone repaired one themselves? I'm going to give it a go, I've nothing to lose.

well I decided to go for it, but have come to a sudden stop as I've got no T-8 torx to get the heat sinks off, doh!

I rang them as my xbox was working fine one minute and then the next time I switched it on there was no picture, mines about 2 years old so they wanted £100 to repair it! Was not impressed, theres a place nearby that repairs them for £40 though so I've took it there. After Microsoft said that the picture fault is out of warranty I left it running for about 12 hours straight hoping I could get the RROD, it never happened :(

well I've re-done all the heatsink compound on both the GPU and the CPU, put the console back together and its still goosed.
