Serious dynamique problems

  RB 200 Cup!
On friday night I was driving back from town to where i live (about 1/2 mile) where the engine warning light flashed and i seemed to be losing power - i managed to get her home and when i got out the exhaust was makin a kinda "put put put" and there was this god awful smell of rotten eggs.....

any ideas what could be wrong - some people have suggested the cat has gone whilst another mate suggested the ignition coils.

Has anyone else had this prob? any help would be appreciated.

Ive got a 2003 1.6 16v dynamique

Sounds like its exhaust related.

Probably where the cat meets the centre section clamp has come off.

Or u have a big hole in ur Cat (easily done)

Jack her up and check the exhaust system, still under Renault warrenty? Exhaust wont be covered tho as its wear & tear

amazingly had first MOT two weeks ago and my warranty ran out at the same time!! so is a cat expensive to fix then - im not really up to par on mechanical matters lol

  Turbos.
Well the egg smell might mean the CAT has upset your fuel mixture. It is too rich. This would explain the limp home mode.

Get the problem diagnosed by a Renault specialist and if it is in fact the CAT, get one from a scrappy. Or, buy a warranty and claim from it (presumung exhaust is covered).

  Turbos.
I'd probably offer a scrappy a tenner!

If you go onto Autotrader there is a used part search facility on the right hand side. If it's the same thing i have used in the past, you fill in your details and a load of scrappies will get back to you. Just play them off each other, say someone offered you it for £30, what deal can you do etc.

also would the cat being fucked also be responsible for the lack of power and stalling on idle?

im just gettin the impression my car mght be completely bolloxed

  Turbos.
Oh, didn't know coils were a problem with Clios. In that case, DO NOT drive your car anymore. If the coils are fooked, it would of overheated the CAT and you could seriously damage your motor.

That kind of makes sense re-reading your first post.

well my mates a renault tech - hes coming to see my car tonight - hope he can fix it at my house cos i aint got aa cover or anything so towing to the renault garage will cost me

Id say cat, i have driven 20 miles on 2 cylinders b4 due to coils, yes u loose power but it doesnt smell.

id say cat, id also say DE CAT!!!!

when idle hold the gear stick, if its juddering then ur prolly running on 2 or 3 cylinders and need new coils.

wouldnt worry about overheating the cat just filling it with unburn petrol!!

I'd say its just your coil pack, the rotten eggs smell indicates this, i doubt its your cat, but it might of been damaged with the unburnt fuel going down the exhaust. My money is still on the coils

  RB 200 Cup!
right thanks - i was just worried if i moved the car it might completely go tits up and die.....

I would recommend taking it to your local breakers.. they will be able to check what the problem is and fix it for the minimum.. as for a job like this they would take cash.
