If you can get someone with a welder to your house then all you need is a new cover and a torque wrench to do it at home :)

2 disasters averted. I was going to take mt clio out and smash it up and down the ring road tomorrow afternoon!!! You've saved me from catastrophe too!!

Love you. x x

Heh, it's taken you long enough to get that running. It's life might have just been saved!

You might even get away with new bolts. Depends if they've sheared cleanly, and not twisted the threads.

EDIT: PMSL. Or not, just seen the biiiiig chunk of mount missing. "Parts please!"

Its been running for ages. I was driving it daily for a bit!

But the fuel pump packed up about 2 months ago and I've not bothered to sort it. Tomorrow was going to be sort out day and thankfully after coming on here today i've just realised that that part isn't supposed to be in two parts! lol.

So i'll sort it tomorrow now. :D

Haha! Cheers for saving me, kinda, is it going to be ok to tow? I.e what if it goes from being bumped around?!?

This is interesting.

Thanks, everyone, especially you Danielson, for le text message.

EDIT:

The bolts look to have sheared clean, so it once they're out it shouldn't be a problem. Its just getting them out that'll be the issue.

A mobile mechanic may be the answer...

Towing will be fine. There are rubbery pad things on the frame, for the engine to sit on, if it does go. But obviously you couldn't drive it. lol.

Cheers 'topher, you've been quite the voice of wisdom in here.

Fred, cheers, hopefully my mechanic's are as awesome as you, and can do it in an hour. ;)

Sh*t me .. you have some luck. Maybe stop wearing the missus' clothes and karma will look kindly on you.

Defo wouldn't be starting / driving that !

I've got a mount for sale. £2k. Comes with free car.

Fred's a machine. It's about an hour's work for a mortal man.

No worries, Rob. I can be useful sometimes. It's rare.

2k now? Tbh I could take it, take the mount, headlights and whatever else, then break the car.... ;)

I'm fully aware my luck sucks, big time, but I'm not sure altering my dress sense will change it though...

Ok, important question:

Would you change the actual mount as well or just the cambelt cover thingie?

EDIT: Oh dear, thread dies as important question is asked, life fail.

Nah, the mount will be fine. It's designed for movement.

Check the rubber pads either side of the metal for wear though. They can wear right through and you get play.

When I take it apart? Ha!

Gotta be kidding ;)

I haven't got the time or enough tools to do a good job of it tbh.

To Two Techs it'll go.

Just got the bolt closes to the front of the engine out with a VERY thin nose pair of plyers!!! Woo!

Can't get to the back one, as it seems to have snapped further in, is covered up by the remainder of the mount and hasn't got the small recess that the front one has (which allowed me to get around it)

If you support the engine from underneath. Then unbolt the whole mount aswell as the remaining bolts. The whole part should lift off?

Then you could wind out the sheared bolts with grips? If they haven't snapped too low.

Support the engine (guessing you have already) and just totally remove the mount / top cam cover part so to gain access to the back bolt.

I'm not quite sure how to go about supporting the engine if I'm totallly honest. A friend wh has aa cover and lives miles away is coming over tmrw. So we'll push it off the drive and around the corner a bit and get towed to my Renault mechanics.

Iirc you're covered in others cars with aa, so we'll be fine if that's right???

As for getting the second bolt out, it's a lot more difficult to get than the other, as it's snapped pretty much totally flat. So I doubt I'll get anything on it tbh.

Put a jack underneath, with a bit of wood between it and the sump of the engine :)

Yep!

The advice given in here is shocking. You all deserve bans.

Now he's gone and driven it. I hope he gets there ok!!

Facepalm.

Its because they all listen to each other and think the person before was correct, When in reality they've probrably never removed a bloody bolt on their car so wouldnt have the faintest idea :S

For the bolt at the back try a hammer with a punch to knock it round and out

Bolt at the back is impossible to get off without taking the mount off, I think its probably loose as hell, so once it's off, it'll come off easily.

I'm hopefully going to get it to the garage today, although to be totally fair, I could probably just do it myself now, as long as I can get that bolt out...

I had a crack and succeeded, cheers to all for the advise, I find working on cars is a lot easier if you've got a mate or two to help, even if they know FA, its just a lot of effort doing it on your own!!!

Waiting on the mount/cover from DannyR now and it'll be back to good working order.

Anyone know how tight the bolts are supposed to be?? Don't want to over tighten them and end up in the same situation!

I'm your Knight in Shining Armour tbh :rasp:

I'd avoid TAF , just in case.. I have a torque wrench if you want to borrow it?

  Iceberg Ph1
Brilliant, I was just texting around people to see who had one!!!

Only thing is I can't pick it up, what with having no car and all??

You have a bicycle don't you? :rasp:

When you want/need it by? I will sort something out..

Rob

glad you get it sorted Rob

will feel good doing that

Cheers Sawah, will feel good when I start it and it all works.

Still a bit worried about the tiny bit of snapped drill bit that may or may not have made its way towards the cambelt....

Haha! I think I'll need it tmrw evening mate, depending upon when the mount arrives (should be tmrw but you know post services)

I can swing by on the ol' push bike if you haven't got time mate. You're not that far away!

  Iceberg Ph1
Lol give over! I wouldn't let you cycle to mine for that! What time you finish work fella and be home by?
