I know were all sick of hearing about this problem,
but it still remains!

Ive read so many threads about it and still have no clue
what the problem is, this is such a common fault
I cant believe no-one has a definative answer.

Ive had a diognostic check, it said brake pedal switch.

That got replaced, computer said its fixed, no fault code,
lights still on!

Took the brake pedal switch out, reset the rachet
lights went out for a day, then came back!

Im always moving the seats back and forward to get
the dog in.
Ive jiggled the wires under the seat as suggested by
previous threads, lights still on!

WTF!!!

Suggestions welcome.

As long as its not go to Renault and get a diognostic check!
I might as well just burn my wallet instead.

the switch needs calibrated, not replaced.

to replicate it drive down a hill dabbing the brakes or gently braking as you roll and it'll happen.

I'll try it mate, but ive been driving it for a month or two already,
would this not calibrate it, or is normal diving conditions not
the best for this to work?

It used to happen in my 182 if i was on the brakes gently going downhill. Always reset itself when I re-started the car but my brake lights didnt come on instantly, I wondered why people tail gated me always! lol

I don't know what calibration involves tbh but replacing it won't necessarily fix it.

Adjust the switch so that the brake lights come on as soon as you press the pedal. It'll be fine after that.

Had this too for couple of days. After few attempts finally adjusted it right. Without a doubt it is your brake lights switch.

Right then, Ive tried dabbing the brakes on a hill both
in gear and in neutral nothing happened.

In not entirely sure how to adust the brake pedal switch,
I know in has a rachet/plunger, and ive pressed it in
then reatached it, nothing happened and ive pulled
it out and reatached it still nothing.

Ive just done a full throttle start in the wet and the wheels
span like f*ck so the TC/ESP isnt working, I hav'nt done
a ABS brake test yet but i'm guessing that that does'nt work
either, the brake lights work fine though.

The warning lights are on permanantly now and i'm getting
p*ssed off with it!

Can any one help?
PLEASE!!!

this my help...
Had my 172 2 weeks, serv, esp, abs warning lights had been flashing up intermitantly and resetting when i restarted the car.

the garage i got it from plugged it into diagnostic unit but no fault was logged.

they stumped up the cash to go to local renault dealer

problem has not been back since (fingers crossed)

i don't have much of a clue with this stuff but hopefully some techys can explain better.

invoice says...replaced cv gaitor and regreased joint £88 inc vat.

runaway grease was corrupting abs sensors!!!!

Right mate cheers for that. i'll check the abs sensors,
also the last MOT I had the said that the CV gaitor was
insecurley mounted so maybe it has something to do with
that.

If my car was a woman ive have dumped her a*se
months ago!!
