Service Question...

  Astra van,Mk1 nova
Well its nearly time for my service for the Clio. I understood that on this service my timing belt would be needing changed as the car is now 5 years old.

Called up Renault Aberdeen to find out a price on the service so I could keep money set aside, and they quoted £174.50. I then asked if this included the timing belt change that needed doing and they said "no, that will need done at 72k...and will cost £700!!"

Is this correct, or should it be changed at whatever comes earlier - 5 years/72k??

And is the £174.50 reasonable for a regular service, anyone know what kind of things this will involve, as this is my first experience with this car.

Thanks

Ecka:)

Belt Def needs doing after 5 years bud.

Service seems reasonable for them...I got quoted £230.64 for my £36k service (not including Aux belt!)

Getting the belt done at pitstop instead now. Used them for a couple of things on my last car and couldn't fault them like.

Mackie motors (Brechin) are doing a special for the timing belt till the end of May by the way so might be worth a shout.

Would have thought thats about right for a regular service but 700 for the cam belts geeeezzz
Never been charged anywhere near 700 for a timing belt change from my main dealer. Its nearer £250 and that aint for the aux belt either

Just contacted Mackie Motors who have quoted £476.62 for the timing belt change. So thats not too bad, but they also said their major service is £273.60 - so in total thats near enough £1k!!!! Not sure whats best to do!

Sounds too good to be true!

Can you poss give me some more details i.e. where I'd have to go etc, what all would get done in a major service?

Cheers!

Kenny Brown engineering in Hillington will do all that for less than £500 too.
My belts are due this year too and that's where I'm going. He does have the special tools for locking the engine etc.

Sounds good, a bit far to travel but think it will be worth it for my pocket! :rasp:

Will you be able to wait for the car while its getting done dude if you go south for it ?

Or it could be a nice shopping trip (and an expensive day) if you take the wife ;)
