Servicing in Reading - any suggestions?

My 182 is due its 36K service, and living in Reading and working in Newbury i thought i had the choice of either of the Bridges main dealers n those locations. However, it turns out they have both closed down!!! This leaves me a little stuck with getting my car service closed to where i live or work.

I am keen to get the Renault stamp in the book to retain the full service history. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any alternative gargaes in Newbury or Reading that are well respected for Renaultsports and would therefore not harm the service history record?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Thats where I go from Reading.

No good if you want to keep the full Renault dealer history though. Thats of dubious value IMO however! Bridges certainly are'nt brilliant in my experience (had two MOTs done there)

morego is near to you in banbury around 40 miles i would say, i would not give renault the time of day.i have gone to morego since 94 and you can trust them,hope this helps you

boxer motor company in maidenhead and they are approved renault specialists....they have always worked on my modded renaults for years and they have loads of experience..three of the mechanics are ex renault

On second thoughts I'm not sure I'll go back to Rentec after Dan's experience.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.
As I'm keen to keep the Renault service history, i contacted a Renault maindealer to get a price and they quoted £246 for the service plus £313 for the aux belt change which is recomended, so a total of £559 for the 36K service! Is this right? Seems very expensive to me.

Looks like i need to make a trip to Portsmouth to Rentech or cross the border to Wales.....will i need my passport?!?

Why not mate? I thought they were ok! Had two services there. Ok, my 36k service was very expensive (about £705) but they seemed to make a good job.

For us Shire people Portsmouth is quite a trek to get your car serviced, now mine is just out of warranty I think I will take it to my local mechanic. I would trust him with anything.

Hi julzh! You will have to come along to the next meet by the way!

The place is Grange Auto Services in Ewelme. He did the brakes on my Clio a couple of years ago and also used to do all the work on my Saxo.

Very small garage and I don't think he has a diagnostic machine but he can do all the jobs!

I wouldn't bother with Martins of Basingstoke as apparently that's where half the staff from Bridges have gone.....some dodgy dealings going on there...

Fish Brothers of Swindon were pretty good with us (we were in the middle of buying a car from Bridges when they went under).
Otherwise, as already mentioned Steadfast in Wokingham, Citromech also in Wokingham are safe bets.

you mean the guy who in the last year has had a 172cup, twin turbo supra and is now getting bored of the 5? He works with me.

BTW i go to Rentech as well.
