Setting the Trophy up for the Track

  Trophy #473
Looking to do a few Track days fairly soon and wondered what sort of Settings/modifications I could do to increase overall physical and mechanical grip.

My front Sachs's are in need of a refurb and currently have 34k on them so taking that out the equasion what else is there that will make a difference?
Im currently running R888's, so tyres sorted (pressure settings on track?)
I have read about white line rear ARB's and uprating the rear dampers to Koni adjustables. Poly bushes worth it? What stiffness settings for the front dampers should I be using? You get the idea... and before anyone says anything my old man is sorting some tuition out through a friend.

Aim for about 34 psi HOT allround on the r888's.
All though that is for 15's so not sure on 16's but that will be somewhere close.
Play around with suspension while ur there. Settings are different for everyone tbh. Not hard and fast rule :)
Most important of all tho is brakes. The standard ones wont last for more than a couple of laps. Pads and fluid need changing first!

Strip some weight, run 15 inch wheels. Get a decent brake set up. get a helmet.

Now I was thinking about getting 15"s... but I'd need to get some wheels first and 16" 8's are only £95 a corner! so in the long run I think I'd be better of sticking with the Turinis. I use the car daily (running 888's) and to be honest I dont mind spending money on decent tyres even if they last 2000k miles (like my previous fronts did) but I drive very hard on the road and get alot of enjoyment out of it so I dont mind the cost.
brakes are sorted, I have HC's, lines and some KTR pads a mate gave me, seem ok on the road, rears are standard.

iirc he's got his 888's on 16 inch wheels.

But brembo HC discs, Groodridge braded hoses, castrol super responce fluid and Ferodo DS2500 pads, (i run Carbone Lorraine Pads, Never used ds2500)

And you should have a laugh with that set up :)

Forget the whiteline Amm tried that no good ruined it.
Before you blow some wedge try a trackday as it is that way you will have an idea of what needs improving.
Chances are the car is more capable than the driver;)

Tuition before mods other than brakes:D

Or try pagid blues which ill be trying next.

Are you still running the standard brake setup?

Bit of neg front camber would be nice. ;)

Make sure the rear shocks are set firmer than the front. I normally run my Konis on full and the fronts on 30 clicks.

if your dampers are shot, then a refurb before a trackday would make the biggest difference, while they're off, get the top hole slotted, that will enable you to gain more camber and it's a better solution than using smaller bolts or camber bolts.

Aim for 2-3 degrees of negative camber (probably just 2 if use it on the road a lot)

make sure your toe is good too,

If the dampers are unpinned then start at 30 clicks, if you go to hard with the front dampers it just promotes understeer, and slows you down on the faster stuff.

Then as others have said upgrade the brakes, a decent set of pads and a change of fluid is enough, but if you want to go all out, then fit some new discs and braided lines.

For safety reasons and for your enjoyment, i'd recommend the brakes and dampers are done before your 1st trackday, after that you should have a feel for what needs improving ;)

If you really get into your trackdays then a Lsd is well worthwhile, that's on the list for me at some point ;)

And Lastly just tell everyone where and when your going :rasp:

Chris

ps, stay away from airfields if you value your r888's and get on some proper circuits
