Hello, I'm Currently driving a Volkswagen Lupo Tdi whilst saving. In July I am hoping to sell the car for around £3,500 giving me a rough total of £7,600 to spend on my new car, which If I have my own way that new car shall be a blue/black 182 with or without the cup packs and I'm not too bothered about mileage. Do you think I'll be able to buy one at that price by then bearing in mind there not too far off one now and ideally for me they'll have depreciated a couple of hundred by then. Also, I've heard that they are supposed to run on Shell Optimax which is'nt too much of an issue as I live almost next door to a shell station, but can they safely run on other fuels etc?. Also finally Whats the deal with the spare wheel? It's essential I have a spare wheel on the car , is there a space in the boot underneath the carpet for it?

Thanks for any repliys,

Will.

Welcome to CS. I would recomend the cup pack suspension - a worth while option.

Renault recommend 98 octance fuel, but they run on 95 as the ecu retards the timing. Not tried anything but Optimax in mine.

No spare wheel or space for it due to the two rear boxes. Two cans of tyre foam only as standard. The spare wheel well that 172s had was removed on the 182. A full sized spare fots in the boot if required though.

its a pisser not having the spare wheel the foam sucks but you aint got no choice mate!!! go for optimax all the way too!!

A 182 for £7600? As a 182 owner I bloody hope not! I think you'll be lucky to find a good one for that price, but happy shopping.

Have you considered a slightly earlier 172? Spare wheel well not a problem then. Almost identical performance too.

172 Isn't really an option as I mentally can't handle what in my opinion is second best. If £7,600 canno't buy a 182 in July then at what price do you think the cheapest 182 will be in July In your opinion?, Thanks.

  182 + Cup
Well you'd have to look at what's around at the time, but I'd guess nearer £9k.

The 172 isn't second best at all. Just a little older. Same driving experience though, all in all. Still a great car.

I dont think you'll find a 182 for that price unless its got stupid miles on it tbh.

If your question about fuel is a financially motivated one then the 182 isnt for you. IMO if you cant afford to put the correct fuel in it then you wont be able to run it, stick to an oil burner. If you are talking about in emergencys etc then yes the car will run on 95RON if you really have to.

Sapre wheel as said will gave to go in the boot as there is no bootwell due to the exhaust system being below the boot floor.

If you look at autotrader.co.uk there are plenty 182's from 7-8.5k around at the moment that seem decent enough , with low mileage. As for the fuel I was just curious whether It could take ordinary petrol incase there was a super unleaded shortage or whatever on a long journey.

If you are bothered about the spare wheel, get over the mental thing you have & go for the 2nd best option - a 172, they have a spare wheel!
Wont be many 182's around for that price.

I'd also see if they are imports as they fetch less money. Nothing wrong with imports as such but you have to be prepared to take less when you come on to sell or have people walk away because of the stigma attached to imports.

  182 + Cup
You must be 'up North' or somewhere where cars are cheaper then, as I didn't find one less than £9250.

The only reason they recommend 98 is to get the best performance. It wouldn't hurt to run it on 95 but it defeats the object of getting a hot hatch.

Your gonna have to break the £8000 barrier for a 182 at this moment in time , maybe in 5 - 6 months you might see a few creeping down to £7,600.

Go for a full fat with cup packs if possible , arctic blue ;)

As said above, £8,000 will buy you a 182 as the new model will be here by summer I think, so you're back to second best anyway ;)
