Shaking steering wheel

  Mk4 .:R32
At high speeds (70mph +) my steering wheel has started to shake like a b*tch. Is there any way to sort this?

You might need your wheels balancing .Have you just had new tyres fitted recently ?

No, but I do need some new tyres. Had all my brake pads changes yesterday, as well as 2 front discs, but thats it.

Thats just happened to me too... Got my cars discs and pads change all round and mine does the same. I think its the wheels need re-balancing once the discs have been changed? No idea why... it happened to my last 172 as well.

Could be the discs thowing out the balance . I'd get my wheels checked for balance like i said . Or try moving the discs round 180 degrees , see if that helps .Sometimes when you fit new discs the don't always run true .

mines doin this aswell! knowiing my luck it will be more sinister than gettin the wheels balanced.
sure its somethin to do with the mysterious knocking from my front end on braking and hard acceleration.

It was a mechanic that did mine so if its not the wheels i shall be going back to him!!.

Well its only about a fiver to get each wheel balanced , so i'd go down that route first personally . Always start with the more obvious and cheapest option imo .Process of eliminination and all that ;)

Its a bit weird that both of us have had discs changed and now the wheel is shaking.. Mines not bad but its noticable.

cud it be anything to do with dodgy top mounts?

how can a wheel become unbalanced? ive not kerbed them, maybe potholes have taken it out of em? these are supposed to be strong rims! (OZ)

When you fit new discs , sometimes they run out a bit as they aren't always perfect . Moving them round 180 degrees sometimes helps .
