Shall i P/x 182 for Escort Cosworth..

Ive owned a standard Saphire Cossy and a modded Scooby, both my dream cars at the time. Im glad ive had them but wouldnt get another, been there done that, but ive got some top memories ( and photos! ).If your dream cars a Escort cossy and you never get one youll always wish you had, youve got to get them out of your system!. The only way to do that is buy one. Sure a 182 is a nice car, but lets be honest itll never be a motoring legend.

you have to get a cos they RULE! you can spend less money on a cossie (engine wise) and get more power and they look good standard anyway + 4 wheel drive ect ect: list goes on how cool they are but as said before you do need to keep the and that can cost but thats all the fun, i pay alot just to own my 172 cup but i luv it to bits so i dont mind! so if you realy want one get one deffo i hoping i get a cossie for my next car as i had fords an did like them but i wasnt cheap

DO IT

The problem with getting a FRS, is that they cost more to buy to start with, he has said he can just afford to buy the escort. And although the focus is a gorgeous car, and i certainly wouldnt turn one away, they just dont have the potential power wise that the escort does. Now if they had made them rear wheel drive or even better 4wd the focus would be perfect. But there is only so much power you can get from a FWD before it is just pointless in having anymore.

Where as with the escort, you can tune it to silly bhp figues if you so wish, and the traction is still crazy good.

Personally i would look for a modded car. Yes people will say they have been thrashed, but if you have been in a modded cossie you will know why. They are very hard to drive slowly when you have all that power sitting there. You cannot drive these cars slow! It shouldnt be allowed. And as long as the car has had regular services and oil changes etc, and has been relatively well looked after you shouldnt have any problems with it.

And as for the engine blowing and needing rebuilds this is IMO is cause people dont let them turbo warm up before giving it a bootful and they dont leave the car running to cool it down. So then you start getting problems.

As guilbert said the esc cos is a lot more tunable than a FRS. Mainl;y due to the bad cooling of the centre 2 pots above 400bhp.i never intend to use the frs as a 600bhp monster. if i want 1 of thse it will be a YB engined mk2 escort!! lol

BUT BACK ON TOPIC.....WHY HAVENT YOU SWAPPED IT YET!!!

Funnily enough though steve, my uncle whos car the cossie is, went and test drove a FRS. It used to be damon hills or something, so is quite nicely tuned up.

He called my dad and said that he felt it was on par with the escort. Now personally i dont think it would be, and he is just forgetting what the escort is like, as he hasnt driven it properly for over a year now. He had done 17 miles since he rebuilt it, as he cant run things in, which is why my dad now has it to run it in, without blowing it up again!

But he maybe selling his escort, and buying the FRS, so he really likes them (I think its the appeal of a newer car though)

Still i would have either car if i had the money, they are both great cars.

If you ask me, if you pay less then 15k for one its gonna be a bag of bolts.

Id only get one with less then 40k on and no more than 3 owners - my bros mate buys them all the time - if you get nice ones they can go up in value.

yes but if you get one with that few miles on it, then you are probably heading for an engine rebuild sooner rather than later. Where as the higher milers will more than likely already had one, and usually when they get rebuilt they get a few choice mods go in too, which are better than the standard parts.

My uncles car he says is probably about £10k if he was to sell it. It has done over 100k i THINK! the paint work is still ok, no rust etc. Should look like new when i get my PC polisher ordered! The interior is still mint, and the engine is mint too, as he has spent so much on it. Nearly every part has been upgraded, and not all due to the standard ones failing, just cause he likes lots of power. As long as it is run in properly, it shouldnt have any problems.

I had the same idea bill, but i was looking for a standard version. My best mate is a really good ford mechanic so therefore on some of the lesser probs he could help me out.

Its the engine changes / rebuilds that scare me with these things.

£2k is nothing, 2 months savings...
2ks a lot in most peoples eyes,(a valver?)have you got it lying around?especially when your running 2 cars, things crop up,tax, insurance, tyres, repairs etc, amongst other none car related expenses, might only be 2 months savings but does that mean not going out on the lash for 2 months? not a chance of that happening! suprised you didnt save up and buy your clio outright if thats the case ????

Keep your 182. Escort Cossies are cool, but theyre gettin on a bit and itll cost a lot to run/fix/insure etc. Going by what you say about where you live id be a bit worried about it gettin nicked too.

anywhere from 16K for a higher milage 1 to 22K for an unregistered 1!!

Some higher milage are goin for less cos the new ST has hit the mags!

mate do it! I had a n reg diamond white escort cossie lux and I loved it.Had to sell it cus I bought a house! Highly recommend it.

Money is the key to the answer by the sounds of it.

Why do you actually want the Cossie?

Might sound a stupid question, but do you want the car for reputation or just cos you want something faster than your 182?

Unless ya gonna be spending on it to get it faster than standard i dont think its worth the trouble.

Most ppl who have Cosworths tend to keep them for special occations, or weekenders, expensive, using a run-around most of the time.

Have you thought about Evos?

Cheaper to buy and spend the rest on the mods.

Personally, i prefer the RS500 to the Escort.

If i had the £, id go for an Evo.

Think it through thoroughly though.
