Shooting at a wedding.

Ive got my aunts wedding this saturday and ive been asked to get some informal shots - (they have a professional obviously. lol)
Anyone got any tips? D60 + 18-55mVR and 55-200VR. Would a wider angle lens help? Ive just seen a 50mm 1.8 second hand for sale at £59 in a local camera shop. Would it be worth in getting that or would it not be of any use? Also thats just manual focus?

The service is at a Registry office and then off to a golf club for the dinner etc. Its my first wedding so i have no idea what to expect with lighting etc.

the 50mm might be nice to get some close up shots of detailed things and stuff not everyone will notice but make a nice touch to photos. also will be good at shooting without a flash for low light with a tripod. although i picked up my 50mm for £70 brand new at jessops a year ago.

other than that i don't know much about wedding photography.

Was poor-ish light inside but didn't come out too bad. Wider lens would be good if you'll taking shots of large numbers and won't have a lot of space. Not sure on the 50mm, F1.8 could be nice for depth of field changing. Manual focus shouldn't be too much of a bother unless they're rushed pics like panning etc so should be ok for a wedding.

I was at a wedding a couple of weeks ago. I decided not to buy a flashgun but looking back, I should have! I was shooting with 35mm f1.8 and 105mm f2.8 (D60) and struggled to get good lighting.

I think your lenses should be fine though, depending on location. If you're looking to invest in a standard prime lens , I recommend the Nikkor 35mm f1.8 AF-S DX. Great little lens!

Ask Dan (Shadowness) he did my wedding back in July and made a cracking job of it

.He normally does cars, landscapes etc and this was his first go at it. We didnt have anyone else doing our pics (Profesional I mean)

He can probably advise you on settings/lighting etc......
