Should I change my R27 for an R26?

  Megane R26
I can do the swap for not a lot of money, but do people think I should?

The main reason I am looking is my 33 mile each way commute 3 times per week, which can be a bit frustrating in the Clio. The Megane seems better suited.

What will I lose by changing to the Megane? I guess it won't be as 'chuckable', but what else?

I'm looking at a Red R26, 57 plate, with 20k on the clock, for £11,500. I have been offered £10,700 for my R27...

What do ya reckon?

Has anyone made the change?

Doooooooooooooo it!!

R26 not as chuckable as the 197/R27!?

I've never gone round corners so fast, and the R26 is very forgiving on a less-than-expert driver. There were a few times when I felt the grip at the back go on my old 182 (no doubt due to my lack of skill), but I've never had that on the R26, the LSD is fantastic.

Sounds a good price on the Meg, I don't think you'll look back. The R27 is a lovely car, don't get me wrong, but the turbo whistle and the handling on the R26 will have you hooked.

Oh dear! LOL

I do about 25, but if you only manage 23 on the R27 I don't know what you'd do in the Meg, the turbo is very thirsty.

i went from a 182 to a 225...

my mpg is about 32..im a carefull driver...but it goes right down if u put ur foot down..

comfort tbh..

but im not sure if youd get this on the R26..??

Tough decision Russ, especially as your car is mint from the looks of your previous posts / threads on here.

I would be swayed by the R26 (good price) but thats imo & progressing from a 182 as opposed to an R27.

As you have said it would cover your required mileage in more comfort / ease.

Not having driven the 197 clios I cant compare fully, but I'd say if you can afford it then do it. :)

I know you would keep on top of the red of the R26 as well, so it would look good too!

Bizarrely, I saw one this evening right by my house, it looked great with the anthracite wheels :)

I've seen your car in and around Walsall. The R26 is every bit as chuckable as the R27 (I've driven both). The R26 is very fast on windy Welsh roads. If you need to change for day to day reasons, there is nothing stopping you really - apart from the fact you'll grow a bigger bum.

I would keep the Clio. But it's not a lot to change, so I can see why you're tempted.
So give it a go. Or you could always wait until the Megane 250 appears....

Damn you all, lol.

I think I am, I was impressed by the test drive. Not as amazingly quicker as I was expecting, but it is only 30BHP I guess.

It didn't feel massively bigger either.

Mm....

The meg is quicker, better to drive, more spacious amongst other things. The only thing the 197 has in its favour is looks, the meg is better in every other way imo. Do it. Especially in red. Probably the best colour for it.

Yeah, cos the 197 engine is just as gruff as a 182's.....

Never driven a 225/230, but as Warren says Red R26 = sex tbh

  Megane R26
It will defo be a red one - is it Ultra Red?

I know it makes sense to do it, but... I dunno. I need a longer test drive.

Or, get someone local with one to take me for a proper spin.
