Socket A supports AMD Athlon XP, Sempron und Duron processors
at 333, 266 oder 200 FSB
supports Burn Proof CPU protection for Athlon XP

I would go for an Athlon XP as it will do a 333 FSB then it will take pretty much any Athlon XP. Something like a 2800+ or 3000+ they dont sell them new so it will be an Ebay job.

Yours has a an AGP slot for graphics, and a PCI slot but thats not pciex. Any AGP graphics cad will fit

You may need to do a BIOS upgrade for it to support a higher end Athlon chip though

Yes thats a BIOS flash. The shuttle site will have the relavant download, instructions and tools needed. Not hard but just exercise caution fella. MAKE sure you get the right model.

Well yes and no, most top end cards will be way too big to fit in a shuttle case fella. Length wise and sometimes width. Plus you are limited as you have AGP slot for graphics and not PCI-Express.

you'll only be able to put in ATI cards in there and AGP ones too...maybe look around the web and see what else other people have managed to squeeze in because as ras has said you'll be limited to space issues.

Why will he only be able to put Ati cards in there?

I have seen shuttles with high end Geforce cards!

I've had nvidia and ATI cards in my shuttle no probs. However, as people have said above make sure the card fits! My current ATI card has a smallish fan and it's a pretty tight squeeze. Girth might be more of an issue than length (as ever.... ;) )

He allready has the shuttle though

That chip would fit yes as its a socket A. BUT thats a sempron. You want a Athlon. Semprons are like what Celerons are to Intel.

Find a Athlon chip fella! Failing that I think I might have a 2400+ you can have for £15 if youc want it

This site has loads of info about small for factor PCs and the forum has a lot of posts by Shuttle owners:

Have a look on there. The Socket A Shuttles are a bit long in the tooth now, but they are bullet proof reliable and if you spend a bit of time configuring them they are pretty good machines. I've got 1.5Gb of memory in mine and it's fine for all but the newest games. Someone at work has set his up as a VMWare server! I want to upgrade mine, but I'm waiting until the AMD 2 chips become a bit more afordable - dual core 64-bit in a shuttle sounds tempting!

I agree with Rasclart - if you can find an Athlon XP socket A chip go for it!

what ya reckon to this?

Shuttles can still be made to handle high requirment games cant they? with a 2ghz processor and 1gb ram and a good gfx card they'd be fine for gaming would they not?

Sorry if this seems tedeous to you all, i'm just getting my head around it all, i dont think i'll order anything till i'm 100% sure things will fit and once i've recieved the computer, its in the post at the moment!
