sick to the core

  Cupra 300 ST 4drive
driving out of my place of work today, got caught in traffic(dual carriageway70 mph) due to an accident just ahead. a clio 172 cup had smashed into the rear of a 38 tonne lorry. it must have been fatal as the car had gone right under the back of the truck ,police had just got there they were frantic, the car was crushed down to the door handles and as far back as the rear passeger area. it was raining heavy and the car came over a flyover bridge (blind crest) and ploughed into the trailer slowing for a slip road about 150 yards further on, i wonder if abs would have helped. why the f~~k did they take abs off a road car to save weight, 89kg is it really worth it. save weight by all means but not with safety features. still really shaken by what i saw.

Brown.

s**t wonder if it was some one off cliosport....... where abouts was this??

That's pretty shitty, hope they're alright. However, ABS won't help if you're simply going too fast for the conditions.

Where did this happen?

Sorry to hear about that dude.

Saw an accident the other day, can understand how you're shaken.

But...

Nasty. Not sure ABS would have prevented it happening though, sounds like they were going way too fast for the conditions. Certainly makes you think.

just off the a465 at neath in south wales, dont know the reg but it had a k-tec stainless grill which was about 50 mtrs up the road along with the bumper

Seriously hope the driver/passengers were ok but doesn't sound too hopefuly! :(

Don't think ABS would have helped, one of those series of factors that came together too make for a disaster. We've all driven too fast, all been a little careless, doesn't matter what your driving accidents like this can happen.

Sad stuff though.

  Vectra :(
Hope its nobody off here :(

I have seen my fair share of accidents as i travel about 40k a year for work up and down the uk. Never a pretty sight and always feel bad when i pass them. Its not a good feeling.

Hope they are ok although it sounds bleak my the damage you said

i know this road well and theres plenty of time to react, unless your good at cadence braking , abs would have helped this vechicle im sure. nearly all of us just stamp on the brakes in an emergency stop, this probably happened today and the cup just ploughed on. been on the local paper website theres no news.

Doesnt really matter if it has ABS or not, it clearly wouldnt have helped in this situation - i.e. driving too close to the vehicle in front.

Tragic though it is, some people unfortunately find out the hard way. Thats life.

the distance the car had gone under the lorry ,theres no way this person was tailgating, its been hit at speed, the lorry would have been slowing down to take a hairpin on the slip road. the accident was on a dual carriageway all i'm saying is abs would have helped him/her to swerve at least because the rain was torrential,

Oh no, I hope they survived, although it doesn't sound too good, it's nasty when you see bad accidents :(

ABS wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference with that sort of accident.

How the hell do you know, perhaps they would of been able to steer around the truck if they had it rather than locking up and then bang!! or perhaps they didnt quite have time to cadence brake LOL

Likewise, whos to say the car didn't aquaplane straight into the lorry? What matter is finding out if the occupant(s) are ok. But trival discussion on the rights and wrong of whether ABS could have prevented this accident is not going to help anyone!
