Silver 1.2 Extreme

As I've been on here over 10months, thought I'd put a few pics up.
From when I first bought the car, to its current state.

From day 1

attachment.jpg

The problems I had with the car were
- One electric mirror, One Manual
- Fag burnt seats
- No Spare

This sufficiently brought down the price :)

Other than that it came with full service history upto 81K and was on 97K.
8 Months MOT
4 Months TAX

So first thing I did was a minor service - Oil, Oil Filter, Spark Plugs etc.

2012-07-16 16.28.07.jpg

After carrying out the service my father suddenly panicked and wondered when the cambelt was done, of which I find to have been done 3 years ago.

Then enjoyed the car for a bit until a few hairy moments when the rain came down.

This was due to my springs being total kaput and so being my ball joints!
Found this out at MOT time.

I was quoted £420 fitted, to which I got a set of springs off here and bought 2 new ball joints from ECP.

All to the cost £58 with free re-test :)

Other than adding a 172 interior, RS Mats, OEM Xenon units, Skoda Splitter and RS Grill which had the french flag insulation already on.
Also wired in the Electric Mirrors aswell as wiring in rear speakers as they came with the 172 interior.

So for the interior I change all OEM orange bulbs/leds to white inclusive of the instrument cluster

I had to salvage a glovebox switch then ordered waterproof a reel of SMD strip lights - really happy with it.
I also used this for the heater panel

Then to now most recent things, I've been trying my dab hand on carbon skinning with a few helpful words from Chris Powell (Carbon Central)
I was on my way.

They turned out quite well

Fitted...

From now just about to gather parts for a major service for peace of mind and will be trying this myself.

Wasn't hard at all but I've had experience with a soldering iron since a kid.

I just bought the parts and used a temp controlled soldering iron :)

I changed them to match my head unit just I nicer place to be in :)

  172 Rep
Thinking about getting blue and white led's to match my head unit, just finding the time and effort, dont feel brave enough to tackle it though, nice little touch to the car there mate :approve:

Thanks :) It's not too hard, some of the bulb are just interchangeable but still require some filters/diffusers to be removed and replaced with the colour of your choice along with a new bulb/led.

The only thing that'll be hard is the soldering on the instrument panel/dash dials, but I'm a dab hand at soldering :)

Next thing on my list is to do the centre clock LCD.

Now all interior is finished with LCD done.

Also made a rectified interior light

Hopefully looking to get a new bonnet and front bumper after I've done my cambelt etc.

I was after replacing the oval plate and vin sticker as mine were non-existent.

So I created a template to use with Photoshop then finally I have had them printed.

Now fitted.

Looks really nice, especially the dash :D

Did you use SMDs for the whole conversion? or did you swap the LEDs like for like? I know the dial ones are tiny, but I can't remember the name of them.

Thanks :)

I used SMDs for the dash, LEDs for buttons and window switches and SMD strip for glovebox and heater panel.

The tiny SMDs are PLCC 2 3258 :)

Update time..

Recently I've colour coded my exterior door handles.

I also toyed with wiring in exterior handle light to turn on when you unlock.
I've made these work so I can turn them off via a switch, much nicer in person.

Then I bought a RS bumper of a local lad then got it sprayed up.

New tyres, front camber, a service along with cambelt change and a exhaust to fit the recess in the bumper.

Then I may consider a sensible drop.

Thanks, I don't want insurance to rise by doing too much, but after deciding on lowering, maybe only a change of wheels.

Tyres should be arriving imminently.

Exhaust is booked in for Saturday, road trip!

A week after that I'll service it and change the cambelt plus water pump.

After all it is on 115K

Who's doing your exhaust? I think I may change mine this year

I decided to colour code the boot button too.

Then fitted.

Now a better view of the rear bumper.

Will be better once the recess has an exhaust in place.

Nice car mate.

Quick question about your dash conversion.

Are all the smds in the cluster the ones you mentioned? And I know you used a strip for the heater panel but is it actually lit by smds too or bulbs? I'm just thinking if I'm going to do mine then I'll try and just replace every smd I can :)

Oh and how did you find the part no. for the smds?

Cheers mate.

how much would you want for changing the colour of the clock LEDs?? and the heater control light bit? i have a soldering iron... and blue led strip... but i dont know where to attach the wires... :S

You know of them? Or used them before?

First I know of them on here,

Prospeed and a local exhausts specialist where on the shortlist.

ive never used them but ive had a look into more local exhaust people to me. theyre only down the road compared to prospeed lol

If you have the same dials as me all of the SMDs aren't the same, so there are 4 PLCC-4 for the LCD and 4 PLCC-2 for the dials thats the cluster and for the centre clock there are 4 PLCC-4 SMDs.

The heater panel was originally lit by 2 'dashboard' lights which are T5 capless bulbs inside a B8.5D holder - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221151086260

If you're replacing every OEM orange light you'll need 5 3mm LEDs for the Lock/Unlock - Rear Window Heater - 3 x Window switches.

how much would you want for changing the colour of the clock LEDs?? and the heater control light bit? i have a soldering iron... and blue led strip... but i dont know where to attach the wires... :S

If you were going to use a blue strip like me you'll need to remove the orange filter from the heater panel by removing the panel itself then splitting it.

Yeaa prospeed is a bit far for me also

I like the boot button done, wouldn't really look a lot different on mine though, although might give a nicer finish, I've got lots of little painting jobs I want to get done.
