I have Sky+, but my parents still have standard Sky. I was going to get them Sky+ for Christmas (box and installation) and then they can have their old box as another receiver upstairs for Multiroom. They pay for all the channels anyway, like I do, so its more or less the same setup as mine.

Anyway, I've contacted Sky and they said they can do it for £99 for setup and installation as long as Multiroom is included in the package. However, the guys outside Morrisons and Tesco's etc try to sell for £49 for the same deal. Trouble is, they havent been around for a couple of weeks now so I'm wondering if they might not return.

Does anyone know of any good deals around? £49 is tip top, but I'm not paying £99. Bah humbug etc.

Buy a Sky + box from ebay and I read on here somewhere that you can get sky+ 'turned on' for free if you already have a premium channel subscription.

Fair point, but it seems a bit odd threatening to cancel if I cant get Sky+ for my folks for £50 cheaper.

You can keep that, give mummy and daddy your box!

You still need the receiver piece which fits to the Sky dish.

You need the 2nd cable from the dish tho, so someone needs to install it

Up to you. They wanted to charge me £75 for an 'engineer' to come out and swap my LNB. I said f**k you, I pay £50 a month for an unreliable service, I'm not paying that. Cancel my contract. they cam round on Sunday morning at 9 o clock FOC.

Phone up, tell them you're moving to Virgin. I'm doing it in the new year. They lost all of the big football matches (Remember monday night ford football? These week was Scunthorpe versus Blackpool, whilst Setanta had Man Utd v's Fulham) The football is one of the main reasons I have Sky and now sky have next to f**k all and there's been no reduction in subscription costs. I'm aiming for free Sky+, and hopefully even free HD lol.

But I've been with Sky for over 10 years to be fair.

just been to sky.com/thankyou to see how much an HD box would be (still haven't got aroung to getting one) £199 is the current price. Typed in my details and because we've been with sky more than 3 years they will knock £30 off so it's £169.

Defo, the sky engineer who put my sky+ in said he didn't think HD was worth anything like the £300 box + £10 subscription for max of 13 channels.

Big time, I made out as if I knew shaft all about sky+ and told them I would be working shifts and so would miss my favourite shows.

Then when she said £49 I said, I can't afford £49 in the lead up to xmas, please cancel. So then she says "it'd be a shame to lose your business for the sake of £49, it's your lucky day"

Then I said "want a brand new pvr3 in a white box, no refurbished rubbish and I want Sky+ Anytime" she had a snigger, think she knew she'd been played then mwaaaaahh

When I was moving house about 5 months ago, I tried to wangle some discounted SkyHD out of them, but they weren't having any of it. Even cancelled, they still said they couldn't do me a discount - would be £300. Saw an offer on through a dealer and signed up as new subscriber and got it for £150.

It's all subjective.
Some people think £45 for Sky World is stupidly expensive.. whereas I think it's the best £45 I spend every month.. so.. Heh.

if you pay 49 you will get pvr 2 refurb or a pvr 3 refurb in a white box so it looks new. i fit them all day long then 2 weeks later you go back for a service call cause the box has gone wrong!!
so it is worth paying the money at the start really otherwise you get rubbish

I agree entirely, Sky will be losing my custom mainly because of the football but more because their internet service has been nothing but s**t.

I can't help feeling that they'll lose a lot of custom after Christmas, Virgin looks more and more like making sense. Either that or dropping sky sports and getting setanta.

i got my sky installed yesterday. i had my own ebay hd reciever, called up to just get connected as i had an old dish, and i only wanted to get the sky hd and movies, and was planning on doing the wiring myself. the guy sold me a good deal i recon, he gave me a free Sky+ box, if i took a multiroom package, and free install for both boxes, free lnb etc. so basically i got my hd box installed free, and a free sky+ box, so all i pay is almost £60 a month for a year. i think thats pretty good as the sky+ box sell for over £100 on the ebay. so i saved myself the money in buying a twin lnb, and the new wire and getting up a ladder etc. and just pay an extra £10 a month for the multiroom which is (the cost of the sky+ box, which i can just sell in a years time). plus i must have saved about £40 for the lnb and wire and the time to piss around on a ladder.
