Sky tv help

  Not a Clio
I know this would probably be easier just calling them but the last time I did I was in a queue for a good 20mins so I'm trying to do it via email.

All I wanted to know was a fixed price for just a dish and wiring at the house we're moving to. We've been with them a year so have our own box.

This is the reply I got:

We can provide a moving house offer to current Sky subscribers. This service can cost 50.00 (GBP) for one Sky digibox or Sky+ box. If you require to move your TV link with your Sky equipment there would be an additional charge of 20.00 (GBP) for this. As you have had your equipment for 1 year you would not need to have the telephone line connected. However if you wish to keep your sky talk and have broadband a BT line would be necessary.

Sky will supply a new dish, LNB and external cabling and fully reconnect the system. However if there is an existing dish and cable at the property, the engineer may utilise this. You would be required to take your digibox, viewing card, Sky remote control, SCART leads, Internal Cabling and TV Link if applicable.

Please note that there is a 90 day warranty on the dish and cabling.

If the installation at the new property is non-standard, for example additional brackets or work required to complete the installation, the engineer will advise you and a further charge will be involved. If the installation requires the dish to be placed on the roof or chimney of the new property the engineer may not be able to undertake the installation due to our health and safety regulations.

As you are a current subscriber, you may not benefit from a further subsidised offer. The terms and conditions of the digital contract are that, a customer is only eligible to benefit from subsidised equipment once.

Now I'm confused. Are they saying it's £50 for the dish and cabling to either a sky digibox or sky plus? What's a TV Link?

They're saying it's £50 for either a Digibox or Sky+. They're also saying that if there's an existing dish and cabling present they will still charge you the full amount even though they've not had to fit any new equipment.

That ^.. And a few feet of coaxial cable.

Only applies if you have a second TV connected to the RF out of the Digibox.

They'd want £20 to move that? f**king hell!

I've actually got one of those although it wasn't called a tv link, can't see how they could justify charging anything. You just unplug it and plug it back in!

It gets worse...

My old man has been with Sky for 13 years (give or take). At the weekend their 4 year old Sky+ box died so he called Sky to purchased a new one. Sky charge £60 to "fit" the replacement box even though A, They don't want it fitting, and B, it's a case of swapping a few leads over. Naturally he used a few choice words and has since gone to an independent to get a replacement box.

It doesn't make any sense when they charge new customers £30 for installation when it includes climbing up ladders and drilling holes in the wall.

Once they have you they know it's hard to live without Sky so you'll pay them what they want I guess. Our original install was free, it does take the piss that they seem to value new customers more than existing.
