Right, had a bit of an impromptu (?) chat with a guy in the same building as me and it turns out we've got a communal Sky dish... bargain!

What do I need to get it to my place? I've got everything down to the socket on the wall which is obviously for Sky (SAT), but nothing on my end. Naturally I need to buy a Sky box, which would, I assume, give me access to all the freebie channels, but then do I need to take out a subscription for anything else? And would these be minimum 12 month subscriptions?

Just wondering how it works if the sky is already installed...

Yep, you'll have to pay subscription

If it's communal, you sometimes (most of the time) can't get Sky+, so it'll just be normal Sky (or possibly SkyHD but with no plus features).

you need a box and a viewing card, which means you need to call sky and pay a monthly subscription or if you want to have Free Sat(sky freeview) a one off payment of about £150 (I think)

Yeah think Daz is right about the Sky+ as they change the end(LCB?) on the dish so it has 2 feeds off it.

Just get a box off Ebay, say £30, and a Free Sat card for £20...

I live in apartments with a communual dish and gave my neighbour my old digibox and he's done exactly that.

All you need to get access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a freesat viewing card which costs just £20.

Cool, cheers guys.

The guy I spoke to reckons he pays a cheaper subscription than what he should for some reason, so I may ask how he's doing that, and just get a box of Ebay. Even FreeSat is better than what I currently have, which isn't even FreeView, can't get it in the middle of Exeter.
