To be honest i don't see the point. As with any modification, i would urge people to invest in themselves rather than make up for their incompetence with modifications.
Well, modifying your car will make it quicker, but it doesn't make you quicker as a driver. It just masks the mistakes you will make.
So i'd get a race instructor instead!
my mate went to the pod at the weekend in his nova 2.0 1st time with the slicks on, so much grip he riped both CV joints out on the line
Ive been thinking the same thing. Cliobuyer.. what sort of answer is that? slicks give you a positive advantage on the track.... Doesn't show a drivers incompitence... whatever your skill level the level of grip will be higher on slicks on a dry track surface?

I'm saying it's a waste of money.
So you're saying more grip means you're having a better time? I'm saying having less grip will mean more fun at a slower speed. You learn more about your car and your abilities.
Otherwise i don't know what you're chatting about.

Nobody mentioned about instruction, as above I'll be the first to agree that instruction is the way forward but there is also no harm in trying something new no matter what it be.
well, an instructor is obviously going to be beneficial, but so are slicks, which was what was being asked originally!
But Bill you said it makes you quicker. My point is why would you want to be quicker? Who are you racing, your shadow?
I know people get a kick out of beating Porsches in their souped up Clios but at the end of day it's just a trackday.

Suck my balls?
As for slicks...yes they generate more grip....they will allow u to push the car further. best thing to do mate is try them...if something breaks..fix it! if u dont like them change them.
Maybe try and get bur hands on some semi worn ones to try out first? get a feel for them? also cheaper. and they maybe wont be as savage as fresh ones, so a bit gentler on the old girl.
With rumours of slicks putting a lot more stress on the car than 'normal' tyres, how much of that is true???
Itching to get some slicks but unsure with all this extra stress the car would take!!
never had a problem on any of our clios (apart from me cooking them by doing a 30min flat out stint at donnington and nearly killing myself through paddock!)
we can get scrubbed slicks no bother Gaz, ring his Lordship
