Slight loose of power when accelerate

  Clio MkII 172 K reg
Hi everyone,

2 days ago I started to feel a slight loose of power when I'm accelerate.
Tried to see in which rpm exactly but with no luck. I felt it in 1-4 gears.
I push the accelerator and for about 1/3 second the engine loose power at about 2500-3500 rpm (not sure) and then accelerate again. Very difficult to feel but I'm sure that this is unusual. I't happen when the engine is warm (not cold after night or something). Just drive on highway and when accelerate feel this for 1/3-1/2 second.
Plugs + plug leads changed 3 months ago. From last service I drove 7000kms. Timing belt + Aux belt + water pump + some other bits changed about 2 months ago (and until now everything was great).
No any warning light come up on dials. Emissions test was today and I passed it perfectly.

Any Idea what can it be ?

pm nigel (mod) he had one on his 172 .

iirc the remap cured the problem but you can compare notes .

I read yesterday about flat spot and this is not the case. It started few days ago. Everything seems to be fine without any light on dash or something.
Why could it happen ?

throttle body faulty maybe. Try to clean it and see.
Any light shown on dash?

My friend had similar problem but happen once a while. Finally solved by new ECU, which is weird.

mmm its just the same thing has been happening to me since I put in 99 tesco on monday.
in 3rd gear going 30mph up hills it feels like its jolting like fuel isnt getting through sometimes.

I had a similar problem and then my Lamda sensor packed in. Have you got lots of soot on your exhaust pipe? it could be pumping too much fuel into the engine.

if your replying to me monkey then...

I have recienly passed an mot and the emmisions were fine..not any more soot than to be expected...but my toxic fume light is on..has been since I put the induction kit and backbox on.

it is quite easy to change that sensor or clean it ..isnt it?

thinking Lambda as well with your emission light on ... it will be the first one , precat. the second one can go and not giving any problems management-wise..

This is annoying ! Now I saw that this is happen at about 3600-4000 rpm.
Plus I had a weird noise from the exhaust pipe (I think at the middle) at second gear at 30 mph (sounds like metal touch something). I remind that I passed 2 days ago emission test very good. And at last, I saw that my accelerator pedal have to much movement to left and right like something not closed well.
Also I found at Dialogys pdf that says to replace wiring at pedal assembly if injection light go on (not in my case) or the engine feel not powerful as it suppose to be (in my case). I'll put it here latter.

My friend suggested to check the accelaraotr pedal assembly. My be when I push it, it's not connected well all the time.

Maybe worth trying the car on a Rolling Road and get a print out of torque and Bhp etc in a Graph format.

I dunno if this will solve the problem mate but it may be able to point out where the flat spot is if there is one, as the power will dip out somewhere.

Or check coil and leads or even the spark plugs and there gaps (Dunno if it'd make a difference though)

happened to me it was the lamda sensor, got it fixed under warrnaty, pretty. the car will get worse and worse, then you'll wll get sporadic powerloss accross the revband and in any gear, but you can power through it but is irritating when you try ot pull away at a junction and the car dies when the rev just drop off.

its in the exhaust some where. done know exactly but they are apprenlty plug and play parts if you can get a new one or second hand one, they should have a lifespan of upto 40-50k miles normally but silicon additives in fuel fules can condence on it and clog it with a film, not sure if you cna repair the sensor, or if its replacement only.

If I don't get any light on dash, Renault's Clip can find the problem too or just if some red/orange light come on at dials ?

well afaik the car will display a warning light if it records a fault, so if you dont have a light on the dash the car doesnt think there is a fault, so nothing to record for the clip to read but i may be wrong?

Ok, I'll go to renaults to check it on clip for faults and to check that all sensor work fine. Probably some sensor is trying to tell me that he want to die.
Any recalls in clio at the past ? where can I find recalls list ?

I think this too as I wrote you in pm. I will update tomorrow if will be luck with rrhis frenceh frog

Ok, I still didn't do the diagnostic but now seems that the problem is not in sensors but in the defazer pulley.
Does anybody had problem with defazer (responsible for the VVT) ?

Ok, after I solved the mystery in that thread the problem for now gone. Also I was today at renault garage and they connected my frog to CLIP. Then we saw fault in knock sensor. Mechanic reset it and said to observe if the probelm become again. If yes, I'll connect it to clip to see if knock sensor fault will show again.
For now I need your help with explanation to how to check this knock sensor in home conditions. I have multimeter so I can read it's resistance. Does anybody know what resistance for it is normal ? can I just unplug it and check or I don't know something ?
