** Slight tappety noise when driving along **

Noticed this very slight tappety noise appear when driving along. It's not the Dephaser, that was replaced in January.

The noise completely disappears when I press the clutch down and returns when I release it. Clutch itself feels fine. Indicates to me maybe it's something to do with the gearbox itself? Which is also slightly whiney sometimes, but I only noticed this whine after I had removed lots of the bulkhead sound deadening and all of the carpets etc.

The tappety noise isn't very loud, it just seems to be something I haven't noticed before.

To describe what it sounds like exactly... If you can imagine a cyclist going along, without pedalling. The noise the chain makes going round and round when the pedals are still.

Anyone got any ideas what this might be? Something I need to get checked out? Or something so pathetic I should ignore it?

Cheers

probably the clutch release bearing. Gearbox off to sort it so full clutch replace really

Cheers Dan for the reply. Not really what I wanted to hear but at least I know now.

Anything that will fail/explode and cause serious misery though? Or will it just get to the point where the clutch gets shagged and unusable?

Guess if the box has to come off a refurb and a diff will be excusable too.
