Slight Whining Sound On Acceleration

  Black Clio 182
my 182 makes a slight whining noise while driving.... sounds like it would in reverse or if it was supercharged lol

its had a remap on it and all the cambelt and stuff done... is it just a noise or is it something to worry about?

  Black Clio 182
well its had a new clutch on it already so its not that.... wasnt sure if it was the tensioners that are wrong?

  Black Clio 182
it sounds like the engine... notice it more in a multistory carpark haha!! was reving it a little to hear my exhaust but makes the whine louder... obviously while driving an not parked up.... doesnt make the noise when stationary.... like if the window is down i can hear it louder as well.

And it doesn't make a noise when you put the clutch down?

If not, that rules out wheel bearings and driveshafts.

  Black Clio 182
i dont think it does... like 90% sure it doesnt do it with the clutch down... will check though on my way home from work.

If the noise persists with the clutch down, i'd be looking towards wheel bearings/driveshafts etc.

If it goes away, it's coming from the 'box or clutch.

If it was cambelt related, it would make a noise all the time. Even when being rev'd at a stand-still.

Right it makes the noise when reving with the clutch down in gear and when its out of gear as well. It does it in every gear but is a bit hard to hear cause of my stupid exhaust lol. It changes tone with the more accelarating then dies down when clutch is put down to change gear then builds up again with accelaration. Makes me think it could be drive shaft related maybe?

More than possible.

That'd rule the gearbox out (which is good news).

Possible wheel bearing?

Or driveshaft?

I'd have it jacked up and check all the wheels for play. Any movement that shouldn't be there would point the finger at the wheel bearings.

Just a note like said above.

I had same sort of noise recently and have just been told i need new wheel bearings. Chances are it could be the same.

Looks like il be shelling out a good ton + for bearings and time then the mot.

cant be a wheel baring as it does it at a stand still. will have to pop the old bonnet up and get a mate to rev it slightly so i can hear where its coming from.

  renault clio 1.6 rsi
does this problem still occur m8
i have te same problem when im driving in 1st and second its like a faint whistling sound coming from behind the engine but in front of driving position
i have been told there is a hole in my exhaust somewhere near where it connects to the engine
when i put the clutch down or stop it sounds more like a rattling sound tho
maybe thts the problem

  Black Clio 182
yeah problem still there.... well my decat does sound like its blowing which i need to get looked at. you reckon that could be related?

  Black Clio 182
got a garage to check the exhaust if it was blowing and they said it was fine... also asked them to check drive shafts and they said they are fine as well.

spoke to a mate about his old clio and he said they whine alot anyway so is it just a normal noise for one?
