slippery brake pedal?

  182 Trophy
Hi everyone,

I don't normally venture over here from the Trophy forum, but here I am!

Does anyone find the brake and clutch pedals slippery wet damp or wet, being made from ali?

I found this a problem in my 172 and still do in the Trophy. A couple of times my foot has slipped off the clutch all together when very wet, thankfully without harm.

On my previous 172 I made a new pedal, from carbon fibre, to the same profile, size and shape to replace the brake pedal. It had the same curved profile, but without the "dimples" and was covered in 3M "Safety Walk" grip tape which is used as standard on pedals in every car type and level of motoracing i've been involved with. It was then just bolted to the main pedal with a couple of countersunk bolts in place of the ali pedal.
It was a very simple and plain, but highly functional pedal! It brought me much more confidence on trackdays, in wet weather and in general fast road driving.

I sold that car will the pedal and am now going to make one for the Trophy.

If you're wondering why I didn't just buy a pedal set, it's because at that time it only cost me an hour after work, and nothing more, plus I only wanted a smooth pedal for grip tape, without any finish on it.

If you're on the Trophy forum, this post is on there too, my user name being nickboazracing.

Cheers,

Nick.

Find even the non sport rubber pedals a bit slippery with wet feet, I just stick the heaters on..

Have thought about the sport metal pedals before, Would be putting grip tape on them as well tbh.

I don't have a problem with just wet shoes, standing in diesel at the petrol station however.....

I had to drive barefoot that day

I'm surprised they made it to production stage as they have only small rubber spots for grip and can be very slippery when wet. However I didn't have any major issues but if you're only half of hte pedal etc your foot can slip off.

Yeah i find ones in my 172 not too good sometimes aif my feet are wet, lot worse than in other cars I have had with metal pedals.

I've driven mine in snowy snowboard boots and they've always been fine? Sod's law now dictates my feet will slip off the pedals the next time I drive...

Yep, mine are slippy when I first get in the car on a damp/rainy day. Normally rub my feet about a bit on the floor mats before setting off to attempt to dry them off but yes it is slightly annoying.

Liking the idea of grip tape........hmmm....

I found (only last night infact) that certain types of shoes are awful for it, and others, I have no issues.

Going to the gym last night in gym shoes (nike running shoes) I came out and it was raining, I've owned the car a month and never slipped, but last night on the way home slipped several times, yet I never have this problem in my work shoes, going out shoes, reebok workouts or plimpsoles? I think its largely due to the shape of the front of the shoe, the running shoe curves up.

Only once had a problem, and I think that was because I had some diesel or something on my shoe. Could hardly push the clutch down without slipping off. Ended up wiping my shoe on the mat and it was fine afterwards.

Generally even in wet they've been fine, must depend on the type of shoes.

I've found mine fine in my 172. The rubber ones in my 1.2 I found a nightmare when wet, the clutch was heavy and would just spring up sometimes if your shoes where wet.
