I am finally about to try and perfect the crispness of my gear change mechanism.
I have the Yanoo stiff shift 3 kit (
http://www.dp-automotive.hu/) and a new Renault bush (7700872205 – about £5) for the connection at the gearbox end and from Yanoo “brass” bushes. All of this should remove all play/slop in the entire gearchange mechanism up to the gearbox.
Whilst I am doing this to make the change sharper, I would like to move the lever movement rearward as I’m 6ft4 and it’s a stretch to where it is as standard. The long rod/tube that runs under the car to the gearbox seems to have some length adjustment at the gearbox end and failing that I could cut out/weld say a cm from the length just before it connects to the in car gear lever. This would pivot the lever back a bit in the car – but any experience of how much I can move it before the reverse lock mechanism wont work?
Any other experience and idea for improving further? I dont want to go with the 3rd party complete replacement systems as they make too much racket.
