smoothed boot , help please

  Renault Clio mk2 RSi 16v
hi all
ive just brought a boot off e-bay and plaining to smooth it . i have a rough idea on how to do it . im going to spot weld a plate in at work and filler over it to get the smooth finish .

just thinking now how to open the bloodly think ! ive been reading the past threads on this and people say to use a solenoid to open it . how do these work and where can you get a good one from ?

if anyone has anymore ideas or suggestions on the subject please tell me , ill post pictures up step by step too and let you all know how its going

if youre going all out smoothing out the wiper too, you can use the electrics from that to use a device to pop open the boot.

altho, seeing as its on the stalk that might not be a great idea. you could end up knocking the boot open by accident. but thats what my friend did on his ford.

forgot to say its for a mk2 clio . what if i havent got a aftermarket alarm , can you have a remote just for the solenoid ?

I'd just wire the switch in somewhere hidden under the dash.

You can't lose it then, plus anyone breaking in will have trouble finding how to open the boot (hopefully).

Not that it'll stop them using a brick on the rear window...
