Snapped bleed nipple

I’ve got a snapped bleed nipple on a caliper. Is there any “easy” fix or do it just need to give to to someone to weld a nut on what’s left of the nipple and see if they can get it off?

Would this be any use?

I’d leave it and weld it out personally.

If it had snapped flush, I’d have drilled it out a bit and smashed an old torque bit into it.

Get it hot and try an easy-out and/or a left handed drill bit first, failing that it'll want a nut welding on and the thread chasing out.

Some good suggestions, thanks!

I can’t decide what to do 🤣. Using a screw extractor set or chinning a torx bit into it seems like the easiest option as I can do that. However…. if it doesn’t work then there’s going to be no nipple left to weld anything onto. As it stands there is about 2mm of material there to work with. I might go with getting a nut welded on first and if that doesn’t work then attack it with a drill.

Welding a nut on has never failed for me, getting this exhaust stud out of my old CBR600 did cause a minor garage fire though 😂

Makes little difference really, a few mm protruding to hold the nut in place is ideal, then you can fill the nut with weld

and get plenty of heat into what's left of a bolt/stud/etc

Fair enough fella, luckily I’ve never had to deal with snapped nuts/bolts/studs so wouldn’t know if it was feasible or not.

You need to be careful that you don’t damage the seat of the bleed nipple in the caliper, otherwise it’ll never seal.

What caliper is it on? A blue bmw caliper by any chance?

Yup…. They were tight so had them steeping in penetrating spray and used the uggerduggerer on gentle rather than just using a ratchet and snapping them straight away. 3 came out, one didn’t live to tell the tale.

Ok, that’s a good consideration. So is it better to maybe drill it and use the extractor rather than the heat of hell trying to weld onto it?

I bought left handed drillbits and extractors. In future make sure to get the nipples hotr and work them back and forth

I've probably done 50 sets of Megane calipers over the years and they're utter c***s to do. All the BMW calipers I've had have been sound

You're in Sunderland aren't you @Yarp ?
My pal can get it sorted no bother. He works at Thompsons MOT Centre on Wear Street (ask for Bryan).

Caliper now with the garage so not my problem any more 🤣.

Cheers @RSRowe, Bryan was spot on and may well use them for MOT at the end of the month. It’s much easier than going to my mate about 15 miles away in the middle of nowhere then trying to work out how to get home!
