Snow socks?

I imagine you lay them out and drive over them in the same way you would a mcdonalds tray, then fasten them?
and I'd expect them to chew themselves up after driving on the road for a bit

I know, but when is there ever a uniform coverage of snow on every road? Or are you expected to stop when approaching Tarmac, take them off, then carry on?

Your information is incorrect .It is not illegal to use studded tyres in the uk in apropriate conditions.
And you might find speculation but you wont find any law that states you cant .
And a quick google finds my belief confirmed on pistonheads

reality is you would never own a set unless you maybe lived in the far reaches of scotland though ..... they are a pain on roads not covered in ice or snow ..... from personal experience.

Snow socks are very good.
As said they are not designed to work on tarmac, so when you start slipping, you stop, lay these out, drive on them, so them up and transverse the bad bit, then whip them off.
They should be used as a last resort type of thing, as they are messy when they come off but they do work very well

Just a bit of a summary on this , and after reading the other thread it seems all over the place.
Summer tyres - you will no doubt survive but if you come across a hill or other people stuck most likely you will be too , the further south you are the more likely you are to rely on them unless where you live is fairly rural.
Snow socks - used sparingly they will get you out of trouble with summer tyres on .
Chains , there is a myth that chains don't work on low profile tyres or lowered cars , while for traditional chains thats true there are chains that are designed for alloy wheels with low profile tyres etc , mine fit on our lowered clio no problem , and our 18" 40 profile audi . Maggi Trak sport are what we have
Winter tyres , have been used to them in germany i can recomend them , they won't get you out of anything , but are huge amounts better ,combine them with some sport chains in the boot and you will get out of most situations
Studs , if we have months of a deep freeze and run out of road salt then these are the ultimate , you can legally use them in the UK but being honest why would you own a set ?

Bought the chains from euro car parts on ebay 3 weeks ago. They never arrived and a dispute happened and I was refunded Monday.
I stared at the arches for some 6 seconds and thought sod it and got snow socks instead
