So Russ went to pod today......

  53 Clio's & counting
Things to know:

Full interior, not even back seats out
Half a tank of fuel
136,500 miles
Home made itb conversion
Running standard ECU (which is crap according to some people...)
23 degree heat.

;)

Going on the times I set in my old Hybrid, if I strip the interior out and get some lighter front seats im confindent there will be a 13 on the next timing slip

Im confident a 14.0 would have been acheavable, but it got so busy I ran out of time.

Plus people kept blowing their cars up and shutting the track down.

My mate had a stripped VTS with cams and itb's and he ran a constant 14.4 mate as a reference.

Im well chuffed with that time, roll on the 13's

Thats a bit slow for a TBd VTS surely? My 106 gti only had exhaust upgrade and stripped and ran over 15 runs in the 14.5's

Yeah was a bit weird it never got any lower, my hybrid ran 14.0 all day, but on the road there was nothing between them.

Go figure lol

How many runs did u get in today? I was meant to be going with my mate and his 3.0 V6 C2. But his NoS decided to burst off so we didnt make it lol

only 5 or 6 mate (cant remember) it was ok in the morning, but got stupid busy in the afternoon, was waiting over an hour for a run, so gave up, stuffed myself full of hot dogs, watched from the stands then came home lol

Ahh right, gld we didnt make it then lol. Cant beat end of jan/feb when its frosty and sunny at the pod :)

  A thirsty 172
Schweet. My best time was 14.8 in the 106 (only went twice mind).
I'd like to know what the Clio will do but don't fancy wrecking the gearbox.
What tyres were you running? Ordinary road tyres?

I was expecting lower. Don't 182's get high 14's. I know my mate got 15.3 in a f**ked 172ff at York.

To give you an idea matey, there were 2 other 172's there, one ran 15.0 the other 15.2 i think.

Average was as Dan states around the 15sec mark, bearing in mind only has a cat back exhaust(cat is still in), itb's and 136,000 miles, I think with only 5 runs thats not a bad time :)

Seems about what the other itb cars are doing, plus the difference of 1 second over the 1/4 mile is a lifetime. :)

That's a good time! I got a 14.8 at north Weald and I'm hoping to better that at the pod, gotta get my NOS kit strapped on before then though

Out of interest Russ what is the 60ft time to be aiming for in an RS Clio? I know it's going to be different for you what with running ITBs and all but wanted a rough idea of what would be a good time for when I give it a go.

To be honest im not sure I never ran mine as standard, but im sure one of the other guys will be able to say :)

Id guess at 2.2-2.5 depending

^^ Agreed mate, its all in the launch, I need to work on mine, best 60ft time was 2.2 :(

Yep, its a lot harder than it looks too, well it is trying to consistently get low times, half the time you feel you have done a good run and expect a low time, yet you don't, then the crap runs seems to bring in the times in my experience hehe

ha lol true true mate, people think its easy but it takes so much practice to get good consistent runs, as you well know.

Stiffer suspension is needed too, mines lifting up load at the front on launch.

Whats your best time in the willy?

My best was at Pod and got 14.0 in the Williams, could of been a fluke as the runs didnt seem consitant, that was a few years back now, had it remapped since then as it wasnt running quite right.

Digging the old girl out his week as I'm doing the Anglesey track day with the WC lads on Monday, nothing like leaving it till the last minute, I havent even clapped eyes on the car since November time, im guessing the battery may be flat :D

Good Times Russ:approve: everyone always thinks its easy and they will get a quicker time than they do :rasp:
Like you said 1sec is a HUGE difference over 1/4 mile!!!! to get that extra 2 tenths of a sec seems impossible sometimes lol
