Some Advice on Gearbox problem Please

  Ford Mustang 5.0
A friend on mine has a Clio 182 with a couple of mods. He had an accident in his car last weekend and now the gearbox wont go into any gear apart from 5th. Even if the engine is off it wont let you select a gear regardless of the clucth being up or down.

You can actually drive the car in 5th before it stalls so the clutch and gearbox function but only in the one gear.

The accident wasnt bad he left the road on a bend and went into a field. There was hardly any damage to the car just some mud on the front bumper, one puncture and a damaged undertray.

Could he of broken a linkage somewhere or do you think its game over gearbox?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

My betting the gearbox is stuck in 5th. They tend to do this when it's binned.

If this is the case would it be game over for the box or is there a way to get it out of 5th.

You can put the car in out of 5th gear. It wont go from Neutral into 5th until the clutch is put down.....If you give it some revs it will drive away in 5th so the clutch is still engaging.

Would you try changing the linkage first to check or is there another way to find out if its stuck in 5th.

Appreciate all the advice guys.

They usually get stuck in gear & you can only select 5th & reverse . Its a case of removing the end cap & moving the correct rod until it un jams . Just don't make the mistake of pulling the 5th gear off :S there are 2 small rods to the side of the 5th these are the ones you need to move :) good luck & make sure you drain the oil first

Pull the end cap off the box, usually it's broken the roll pin. Replace the roll pin and off you go.
