Some Engine Bay Pictures...

Almost finished in there now... Just need to crack on some more with polishing the RenaultSport and repainting the induction pipe after scratching it making the perspex heatshield!

Next things on the agenda for the engine bay...

New coolant bottle and coolant flush
New oil cap
And maybe sort out the soundproofing at the back of the engine, its going brown for some reason...

C+C welcome...

^^ Nick that heatshield is a PRO job, loving that really :approve:

I have made a similar setup, heatshield , but out of aluminium and well now i think mine looks like s**t when seeing yours

Áh well , mine does the job nicely too. Do'nt care to much about under bonnet cosmetics . Never cleaned my enginebay either..

Cheers pal! Na i'm not into my underbonnet cosmetics that much but before I painted some things and 90k miles of not being cleaned, something needed doing!

Do you find your heatshield gets really hot being a metal? And stays really hot?

yep, warm is more the word though. I'm not too worried about that as it does effectively stop the warm air passing to the area where my caf picks up air. (pointed down/at headlight ) When standing still in traffic it might pass on some heat though to this space behind the shield, that's correct !

How did you go about taking measurements to make it a snug fit to the bonnet ?

I made my shield in a bend, so the bonnet, when closing , pushes it down (the bend) and "seals" the bugger

I have some pics but i have modified already to improve it . I'll post them in a jippy

Yeah standing still in traffic used to be quite bad for me also! But once your moving again its amazing how quickly the temps drop! Didnt take any measurements, just purely trial and error. After playing about with it and looking through the grill with a light, its probs about 5mm from touching the bonnet so hot air can get there, just not as easy! At least when your driving it won't be sucking in the warm air from the engine/radiator...

Would be good to see what you've done with yours...

Here's a pic anyway ; since this was made i have attached a piece (the bend i was talking about) . Also this shield you're looking at now is'nt mounted yet, and i have filled out/closed up all open spaces to the right so it seals up evrything nicely .
Will post another pic come daylight;)

Looking through the grill with a light.. :) that's good !

Anyway, i will get a pic up tommorow as this one you're looking at now is the unfinished one. Noticed how i had trouble cutting the Alu with my kitchen scissors !? All edgy ..

Wrong light ; do'nt know if the "sealed" right side is visible in the shadow. Anyway all the bit to the right in the shade is closed off , and the shield has a 90degree angle that is pushed under the former battery tray so also bottom of "airbox-space" is partly sealed from heat from gearbox. Only has a big opening to former oem caf area / behind headlight

I'm thinking of a nice big old sticker to put on the thing just to draw off attention from the pikey handwork ;) I found a sticker-site which has the most awesome-funny-nice stickers
