It isn't, the 40U is the bottom of the range. This is the one up and is a better panel. I have the 26S and it's very good.

I spotted that yesterday and was quite tempted. It may be bottom of Sony's range but it's still a Bravia and looks very tempting at that price.

Looks a good set IMO for the money. 1080p really isn't needed on this size of screen anyway, and it's going to be a long time before we'll see 1080p broadcasts over the air.
